To show what is hidden - this is about today's report!) There are two ways to be in the Strategic Missile Forces division during combat duty. Either you serve in this division, or you are a blogger!) Surprisingly, the brain could not get used to the idea that you can shoot at a secret military facility, unlike the famous Moscow City, where the guards "shoot" photographers on their way ... But now is not about that.

The 7th Guards Rocket Rezhitskaya Red Banner Division is not at all exemplary, but simply the closest in location to Moscow. The division is located in ZATO Ozerny, Tver region, and our journey took about 5 hours one way. I wonder how long it takes the Topol-M system to get to the Moscow parade?)

In today's report there will be barracks, bunkers, hermetic doors, communication and combat duty vehicles, and riding on a 40-ton MAZ of the Topol-M complex!) Details under the cut...

And further thank you very much organizers for the opportunity to experience it all!)

Looking at all the fences, fences and fences again, you involuntarily calm down that nuclear shield countries protect...
And they guard many times better than the air defense unit, into which someone made his way last year, making a fuss all over the country.

You can't just walk in the door. Of course, these are not fingerprints, as they show in films, but voice communication, I am sure, is ten times more reliable.
2

Unloading, although not like Anatoly Wasserman, but there is no desire to ask unnecessary questions.)
3

The guys just finished their exercises, and here we are. You can read the joy on the faces
4

At first glance, the currency exchange office near the Leningradsky railway station is better protected. But it's not.
5

Underground passage. And above it is a whole system of security barriers, which they preferred not to tell us about.
6

They just said that it is impossible to go through them in principle. Only through the tunnel.
7

Combat duty support vehicle. Below are photos of the inside of the Hab.
8

Representatives of the unit evasively answered bloggers' questions. Everything we need to know is already on Wikipedia.
9

To our regret, we were not shown the launcher itself. They explained it simply - a military secret.
Now a doubt creeps in that not quite the same Poplars are being cut on Red Square, which are combat duty.
10

The communication vehicle was slightly disguised.) We were not allowed to photograph it. But they let me in. But no cameras.
11

In garages, cars are also connected to air ducts so that they can be started without driving them out into the street. Everything is thought out.
12

Actually inside. Everyone unanimously agreed that it was exactly like in a compartment car. They just didn't let me take a nap.)
Although, as we were explained, sleeping in the field while the complex is on duty is not as romantic as traveling by train to St. Petersburg... :D
13

The commanders have their own compartment, again reminiscent of a compartment for conductors.
14

I'm sure everyone here admired the obscenity.)) Made for people! and there is nothing more to add ... cool!)
15

Here you want porridge from an ax, but if you want, you can cook a goose
16

Have you forgotten that this is one of the machines of the mobile nuclear complex...? And don't say...
17

To the exit. In general, the passage is very tricky. Only one door can be open.
By the way, pay attention - on the right is the old form, on the left is the new one. The new one does not have epaulettes on the shoulders, instead of them there is now one epaulette on the chest.
18

Any spy would envy us)
19

I read somewhere that "deadly dangerous" sounds more convincing. In general, it’s a little creepy to be near the perimeter.
20

To go on an excursion in a military unit and not go to the barracks - this does not happen.

The most spacious barracks I have ever seen. We were honestly admitted that this is not a demonstration barracks, there are even better ones. Well, if so.
21

Lenin's leisure room. They say in recent times they try to make it more comfortable, reminiscent of a house.
You can immediately see who remembers the house)) On the opposite side of the room there are large sofas.
22

100 questions 100 answers
23

I don't think it's bad and comfortable.
24

Hard to learn, easy to fight. I recalled a moment from the DMB: the general distributed machine guns to everyone, and for those who did not have enough - sapper shovels.25

MIR and RIA Novosti covered the trip to the division. russo acted as a TV star.)
26

There were more soldiers in the windows. But almost everyone turned out to be modest and hid.
If they didn't know who bloggers were before, they now think they are photo maniacs with cameras the size of machine guns.
29

This is MAZ-7917. Used for driver training. They arranged a test drive especially for us.)
30

It turned out to be very easy to operate a 7-axle 40-ton machine under the strict guidance of Senior Warrant Officer Sergei Oleinik.
Watching him unfold the training chassis more than 20 meters long, I remembered that it would be much more difficult to park in the yard in the evening.
31

Compare scales with ZIL 130.
32

And with the bus
33

The sizes are amazing! And now there are 8-axes
34

aleshru the first blogger in Russia who happened to drive a MAZ 7917.
35

drowned)
36

The car is simple, only the dimensions are not felt at all. And so two pedals, automatic transmission. Brakes the engine.
37

KAMAZ :) There is a first aid kit under the glass. By the way, climbing in and out of the cab is a very traumatic business.
38

It seems that he turned around, but did not see the end of the car ...
39

Turning circle ahead. For a turn, you need a radius of 27 meters.
40

Someone tried to leave a video camera on the road to film the passage, but this was immediately stopped.
41

The girls also rode and taxied. Their delight is indescribable.
42

Power. There are no other emotions.
43

Now let's go to headquarters.

This is the door to the underground command post. Opens only from the inside.
44

We were not told where this corridor leads. Oh, how many secrets we do not know ...
45

After driving a 40-ton colossus, these doors made an even greater impression. As they say - behind seven seals.
A vacuum is created between the hermetic doors and without normalizing the pressure they cannot be opened. That's it, yes!!!
46

Behind the barbed wire is a disguised command post. On this I will end the photo report.
48

Interesting fact:

In 1961, on the territory of the division, in the strictest secrecy, a meeting took place between Nikita Khrushchev and the Cuban leader Fidel Castro.
Khrushchev showed the commandant new rocket R-16, capable of reaching the territory of the United States.

video from RIA Novosti.

Kalinin region, Vypolzovo village. Have you heard about this place? And by the way, thousands and thousands of people lived, worked, served there. This place is not far from the highway Moscow-Leningrad, just in the middle. They say that once the carriage of Empress Catherine, who was passing there with her retinue, got stuck in the mud. And when they got out, the empress said that, thank God, they crawled out! Hence Vypolzovo.
And at the end of the 50s, now of the last century, in the strictest secrecy, the first division of the Strategic Missile Forces of the Strategic Missile Forces was formed there. The military garrison was located not far from the highway, inside the territory fenced with a fence there were solid 4-storey houses left by inheritance from the long-range aviation division stationed here earlier. Previously, families of pilots lived here, now rocket men have begun to live here. According to legend, officers continued to wear flying military uniform, and at the nearby airfield there were several old huge long-range bombers to confirm this legend. As boys, we rode bicycles to swim in Mikhailovskoye Lake just across the airfield, past these standing planes.
The entrance to the garrison began, as it should be, with a checkpoint standing under a pompous arch, similar to the Triumphal one, and ended with a wonderful pine forest, which struck me with the fact that when we arrived there, all the glades were red with russula. At the other end of the military camp there was a second checkpoint, not far from which stood a beautiful house of officers, also built for pilots, and behind it, in the forest, there was another military town - small wooden barracks - a town of technicians. Previously, flight technical personnel lived here with their families, and the families of military builders, the construction battalion, began to live under the rocket men. There were a lot of construction battalions and they built new points, concrete blocks for them, new houses and new school. The children studied in two shifts in a two-story wooden school with stove heating standing near the garrison. But there were so many families that a couple of years later a wonderful five-story modern huge school was built not far from the old school. General Uvarov commanded the division, Alexandrov was the chief of staff. Our first apartment was on the second floor and the windows of the rooms overlooked the main street leading from the main checkpoint with a triumphal arch to the headquarters.
I remember the children's delight of those years when we children ran out into the yard and yelled, jumped when we learned that another astronaut had taken off! And in winter, snow fortresses were built in the yards and they played snowballs until late at night. When they got older, they went "walking" - that was the name given to walking by a company of boys and girls along the perimeter of the road that ran between the houses. And when in the oncoming company you finally met her, the girl you had long and secretly liked, your heart sank. Those were happy moments!

Everything in winter free time held on skis or on a skating rink, adored the library. It was customary to send children to music school. And summer, summer - it was a special time! In the summer, even those who lived in Moscow and Leningrad often came to the garrison - many wives with children did not want to follow their husbands to such a Darkness-Cockroach from the capitals, but they came here with their children for the summer. In the summer, we either played basketball or volleyball at numerous sports grounds, or rode bikes to swim in the nearby Mikhailovskoye Lake. And then they just drove around the yards, climbed the dark stuffy wooden sheds standing along the houses. A wonderful ram was often dried there - a delicacy of boys.

I remember the arrival of Fidel Castro with Khrushchev in our garrison. Here is a quote from the TV program "Military Secret:" In 1961, in the Tver region, not far from the village of Vypolzovo, a meeting of Nikita Khrushchev and Cuban leader Fidel Castro took place in the strictest secrecy. Khrushchev showed the commandant a new R-16 missile capable of reaching the United States. "

In the days Caribbean crisis all the officers were in readiness for the start of the war, in the barracks. My father was hardly at home. Even we children knew that the war was about to begin. I often woke up at night from the fact that I dreamed of him, this terrible terrible explosion of a rocket that flew to us from the Americans. The officers worked hard. The rockets were refueled with liquid toxic fuel - heptyl, the oxidizing agent, it seems, was nitric acid. No matter how security measures were applied when refueling rockets at the sites, the number of which was constantly growing, but here and there there were emergencies with the death of people. Many children were very sick. My younger sister, in the words of my mother, "did not get out of pneumonia." In the end, the parents decided that the health of the children was first of all, and my mother took my sister and me and left for Kharkov in the summer of 1966, while my father stayed to serve until retirement. But the six years of my childhood that I lived in this place, classmates, the wonderful places of the Valdai Hills, forests, wonderful lakes, rivers - all this is still identified with what I remember when I hear the word Motherland.

It would be nice to have a website. A site with a forum for those who lived, studied, served and worked there. A closed group appeared in Odnoklassniki "Bologoe.4". But unfortunately I still can’t find many of my school classmates with whom I studied then. Almost no info on the internet...

STORY

2004 the year was an anniversary for the Guards Rezhitsa missile formation - on July 14, the 60th anniversary of this division was celebrated in the ZATO Ozerny. And this year, together with other units and formations of the Missile Forces, together with the Armed Forces and the people of Russia, it celebrates our common holiday: the 45th anniversary of the formation of a new type of troops - the Strategic Missile Forces.
The chronicle of the division is inseparable from the history of the country. By order of the People's Commissar of Defense of the USSR in 1943 on the basis of the 79th Guards artillery regiment the 19th Guards Cannon-Artillery Brigade of the Reserve of the High Command was formed, from which the 7th Guards Red Banner Rezhitskaya Brigade originates missile division.
Its first commander was and remained until the end of the war, Colonel V.M. Sokolov.
The combat route of the 19th brigade on the Kalinin front starts from the city of Staraya Russa, goes through Novorzhev to Velikie Luki, which was then part of the Kalinin region, and from them to the city of Nevel.
The honorary name "Rezhitskaya" brigade received for participation in 1944 in the Riga offensive operation and the heroic breakthrough of the German defense in the area of the Baltic city of Rezekne.
AT Peaceful time the brigade from 1947 to 1960 was based in Luga, Leningrad region. From Luga, the order again brought her to Tver land - to the village of Vypolzovo.

NUCLEAR ROCKET SHIELD OF THE MOTHERLAND

The history of the birth and deployment of the Strategic Missile Forces in the USSR, due to understandable circumstances, is not known to a wide circle of readers. We have a unique opportunity to tell in this brief anniversary review on the example of the 7th Missile Division how it was.
In 1946, the first missile formation was created in the Red Army, which was armed with R-1 ballistic missiles.
Then he went into a series of missile systems medium range with a single-stage rocket R-5M. Her chief designer- O.P. Korolev. For the first time, a detachable warhead was tested.
In 1958, at the Baikonur test site, a demonstration of rocket technology was held for members of the Central Committee of the CPSU and the Soviet government with a demonstration of the launch of new R-12 missiles. A year later, Chief Marshal of Artillery M.I. Nedelin and the chief of staff of the reactive units, Lieutenant General M.A. Nikolsky scientifically substantiated the need to create a special type of troops capable of holding back the transformation cold war into hot.
On December 17, 1959, by a decree of the government of the USSR, the new kind Armed Forces. The first Commander-in-Chief of the Strategic Missile Forces was M.I. Nedelin.
The breakthrough into a new sphere of human activity - rocket and space - was accompanied by tragedies in our country, in Europe, and in the USA. On October 24, 1960, during the preparation of the first launch of the R-16 ICBM, an explosion occurred on the launch pad. Many died, including Chief Marshal of Artillery Nedelin. Shown on TV last year documentary about this tragedy - a requiem to the heroes of the Strategic Missile Forces.
Nevertheless, the design development, experimental fine-tuning and development of new missile technology by the troops continued at an accelerated pace. The arms race for us was a means of deterring the aggressor, a way of maintaining world influence, a source of the latest technologies and virtuoso engineering solutions. This is how the designers, engineers of the defense industry and rocket soldiers understood their mission at that time.
In 1960 in design office"Yuzhnoye" under the leadership of Academician M.K. Yangela was created intercontinental missile on high-boiling fuel components. The idea appeared and was implemented to hide the R-16U missile in a silo launcher. 186 such installations were deployed. These missiles were in service until the 70s.
The second-generation intercontinental ballistic missile was the UR-100 lightweight missile. It was created by the team of Academician V.N. Chelomeya.
From 1973 to 1985, the Strategic Missile Forces are equipped with third-generation missile systems with multiple warheads and means of overcoming air defense enemy. The RS-18, RS-20 missiles are being put into service.
At the next stage (1985-1992), fourth-generation missile systems with new RS-22 and RS-20V missiles enter service.
Since 1992, fundamentally begins new stage in the development of the Strategic Missile Forces. A unified Topol-M missile system for stationary and mobile deployment is being created and deployed.
In 1997, the Strategic Missile Forces were merged with the Military Space Forces and the Space Rocket Defense Forces. Since June 2001, the Strategic Missile Forces have been dismembered and transformed from a branch of the Armed Forces into two independent branches of troops of central subordination: Rocket troops Strategic and Space Forces.
It must be said that Tver military scientists from NII-2 of the RF Ministry of Defense and the Military University of Air Defense made their significant contribution to the development of rocketry and its control systems, to the improvement of protective equipment. In the USSR, a unique was created - there was not and is not such a mobile rocket system on the chassis of railway cars. This rocket armored train is almost impossible to detect in the lace of Russian railways and traffic. And he is ready, if necessary, to fire a volley of ballistic missiles within a few minutes. The design engineers and production workers of the Tver Carriage Works were involved in the creation of this complex.

BATTLE DAYS CONNECTIONS

In the distant 60s, in the village of Vypolzovo, Kalinin Region, our missile division began to settle in houses and barracks that the 25th aviation division of the 6th air army left. The core of its personnel was the 19th Guards Cannon-Artillery Rezhitsa Brigade transferred here. The tasks were the most difficult: it was necessary to build a residential town, to accept and master the technology that had never been dealt with before, to form a management. But at the appointed time November 30, 1960, commander - Colonel P.P. Uvarov reported that the 7th missile brigade had been created. It soon became a division in which combat duty was carried by five regiments with RS-16 missiles.
After 10 years, the divisions were already on combat duty 15 missile regiments (!!!) equipped with new complexes 8K84. These were also difficult years. The work went on around the clock, to the limit of what was possible. But adopted by the country measures provided in the 70s strategic parity between the USSR and the USA.
Since 1975, the next rearmament of the division began. Received the third generation of missiles - 15A15. With them, the range of destruction and the number of targets hit increased several times. Latest systems remote control brought this type of missile to the fore in terms of combat capabilities.
During these periods, successively replacing each other, the division was commanded by Major General Yu.S. Morsakov, A.P. Volkov, E.S. Ivanov and V.P. Khramchenkov.
One of the most difficult and bitter tasks fell to Major General A.V. Gribov, who commanded the division for 12 years (from 1986 to 1998), and Major General A.S. Abramov. The difficulty was not only in the development of the new Topol supermissiles, but also in the fact that, by decision of the new Soviet leadership, from March 1989, the removal of missile regiments from combat duty began. A huge amount of work was carried out, the opposite of what was done before. The missiles were dismantled and disposed of, the missile silos were destroyed. And this work was, as always, carried out by rocket scientists with high quality, accident-free and environmentally friendly. Since 2000, the division has been led by Major General A.F. Shurko.

Back in April, a small group of bloggers were invited to visit the 7th Guards Missile division of the Strategic Missile Forces- Guards Rezhitsa Red Banner missile formation of the Strategic Missile Forces.
I took the trip with great enthusiasm, to look at the legendary Poplars.

Some of the comments I took from the magazine d_schedrin for which he thank you so much. I advise you to read his post as well, it will open your eyes to many things http://d-schedrin.livejournal.com/7286.html

2. Fences leading to the Topol parking lot, barriers, barbed wire, two high-voltage wires, and so on. It is almost impossible to overcome these obstacles, so we were shown another way.

"Electrified fence - grid "P-100" (please do not call names an electric fence!). It works in three modes: 765, 1500 and 3000 volts. In order to die, it is not necessary to touch it with your hand. It kills when a person is already at a distance of 1 not a single enemy has died on it during the entire existence of the Strategic Missile Forces, but there are regular cases of the death of our servicemen and civilians. two pairs of OZKs will save them.In another division in the 90s, there was a case when a tractor driver from a neighboring village, who got drunk on a plank, decided to plow the BSP with his tractor.Stumbled first on the net, then was shot with a burst from a turret machine gun.In the 7th division last case The death occurred in my opinion in 2000. "

3. Almost everything in the unit is fenced with barbed nets and it’s not at all easy to get into some place just like that. Behind the net is a sentry with a turret machine-gun mount.

4. We were led through a special "underground passage" under all the nets, thorns and fences.

"Entrance to the terrace, checkpoint. The list of persons who have the right to pass is strictly limited and strictly at a certain time. Some conscripts could serve for two years without ever getting to the BSP (cooks, for example, firefighters, doctors). During the passage, a regular pass for to the regiment, the division is changed to a badge that has the right to enter the BSP. No pass or badge is not issued, goodbye, go back to make out. An exception was made for bloggers. make a grid-100 with a person. Apparently, in order not to injure the psyche of bloggers, the poster was removed. There is still a rule to hand over smoking and incendiary accessories to the guard when entering the BSP. This is reminiscent of a sign on the window, which is now gone. But the personnel are at the BSP for at least 6 - hours, or even several days, so the rule is violated everywhere.

5. The corridor is not long, 30 meters, it resembles a "gateway" according to its purpose.

"Potern. Its disadvantage is the passage of water. You can see it by drops on the ceiling and dew on the walls. In rain and spring, very solid puddles form in the pottern, which the fighters successfully dry periodically and especially before checking with rags."

6. Initially, out of my own ignorance, I decided that here it is, "Poplar". But he soon realized that it was not him. And as they explained to us a certain machine for providing personnel at Topol

"And here is my any MOBD (combat duty support vehicle) based on the MAZ 543M. Designed to provide electricity to the launcher in the field and for its own needs, as well as to accommodate personnel. It consists of two unrelated compartments. In the first (entrance on the right) there are two diesel generators of 50 kW each. From it you can see two exhaust hoses stretching to the roof. Behind it is a fuel tank, if my memory serves me for 1960 liters. Behind it is a household compartment, this is where bloggers were allowed in. In front of the cabin there is a Soviet air conditioner type A powerful and reliable thing, albeit bulky.
I will never forget how we washed it with FAIRY (it turns out it is used not only for washing dishes!) before checking. And then a thin layer of diesel fuel to make it shine like in this photo."

7. Canteen at MOBD

"Dining room. For the first time I see such window dressing. Plus, during the march, plates and mugs must be removed to the kitchen and fixed there. On the impassability, the body shakes violently and all this window dressing will scatter around."

8. Own kitchen.

9. A kind of coupe, very reminiscent of a coupe in trains.

"Mattresses and bed linen were never given out. Usually they sleep with an OZK under their heads and covered with a pea jacket."
“According to the full staff, there are more than 30 people in the preparation and launch group. In field conditions, personnel are placed to sleep not only in the compartment, but also in the dining room and on this floor. The 7th division is a reduced strength division or, as they say, “castrated”. In groups of 10-15 people. "

10. At the garage there was another car covered with a net, inside which it was also forbidden to shoot, state. mystery, etc. ... As it turned out, this is a communication vehicle based on the MAZ 543 A.

11. After that, we were taken to the barracks, by the way, I have the same slippers at home))

12. The guys sat buried in books and were afraid to even move, it’s not easy to read synchronously.

13. Training cards.

14. Standing on the bedside table, trying to see the wall with the coat of arms behind him.

15. We also visited the sports town.

16. Where a soldier of the American army suddenly ran vasilymaximov and started pulling up!

17. Finally we were shown "Poplar", but as it turned out it was just a car on the same base. Instead of a rocket, or at least a dummy rocket that rides on Red Square during the parade, we were slipped a barrel of water...

"Tractor MAZ7917. "Topol" based on such a tractor. According to the performance characteristics I will not stop, whoever needs it will find it. This instance is most often used to train driver mechanics before taking up combat duty. To simulate the weight of a rocket, water is poured into the tank or sand is poured ."

18. Driving a car is not difficult, but it is very difficult to get used to the dimensions.

“The control is not difficult, but you need to get used to the dimensions. While driving along a narrow road, out of habit, you may get the impression that you are already driving on the left side of the roadside. Over the bushes. It swallows bumps. It feels like on a ship on the waves. It is forbidden to overtake the launcher! During a real march, country roads are cordoned off and traffic is blocked on them, which causes discontent among the local population and mushroom pickers, as well as illegal lumberjacks found in the Tver forests. In 2007, in Yoshkar-Ola, either because of the negligence of the commandant's service, which let a civilian car into the combat patrol area, or because of the impudence of the driver of a passenger car flying in the opposite direction, the whole family who was in the passenger car died.

19. Management: 2 pedals, semi-automatic box.

"The gearbox is semi-automatic. The lever is on the right in the middle. The direction of movement is switched by a toggle switch: "forward-neutral-back."

In general, the trip was not successful, too much "window dressing"

"The state of affairs in the division leaves much to be desired. Officers have, at best, 3-4 days off a month. This is with a salary of 15-20 thousand rubles. Therefore, every tenth graduate of a military institute tries to quit before the end of the first contract. Every second officer does not wishes to extend the new contract.
The apple of discord was also introduced by the so-called 400th order. According to which the best ones are allegedly rewarded (about 30%) and monthly bonuses of 30-50 thousand rubles are paid. There were rumors that cars were burned to such "premiumists".
The recruiting staff is also of great concern. With a two-year term of service, a soldier studied for six months in training, six months completed his studies in the army, and only in the second year of service could one feel the impact from him. Now, when he just gets into the exploited equipment, he already needs to be fired.

At the time of signing the Memorandum of Understanding to the START-1 Treaty, the USSR Strategic Missile Forces included 26 missile divisions, combined into 6 missile armies. The missile systems were located on the territory of four republics - Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Belarus. By the end of 1996, the concentration of the group on the territory of Russia was completed, while it was reduced to 19 divisions, united in 4 armies.

Russia

As of April 1, 1997, the grouping of the Strategic Missile Forces on the territory of Russia consisted of 762 deployed launchers (of which 16 were deactivated, but not yet liquidated). Organizationally, the grouping of the Strategic Missile Forces is united into 4 missile armies consisting of 19 divisions.

1. Rocket division of heavy ICBMs (R-36MUTTKh / R-36M2) consisting of 52 launchers, deployed in the area of the village. Dombarovsky, Orenburg region (out of 64 launchers that were previously available, 6 were liquidated and 6 more were deactivated).

2. Rocket division of heavy ICBMs consisting of 7 regiments (46 launchers), stationed in the area of Kartaly, Chelyabinsk region.

3. In the Rocket division of heavy ICBMs consisting of 5 regiments (30 launchers), deployed in the area of the city of Aleisk, Altai Territory.

9. Guards missile division consisting of 4 rail-based RT-23UTTKh regiments (12 launchers), stationed in the area of Kostroma.

10. Missile division consisting of 4 regiments of the Topol PGRK (36 launchers), deployed in the area of the city of Teikovo, Ivanovo Region 76 (This division was previously equipped with UR-Yu0K / UR-Yu0U systems, which have now been completely eliminated. )

11. Harbin missile division stationed in the area of st. Drovyanaya, Chita region 7 as part of 2 regiments of the Topol PGRK (18 launchers). The UR-Y00K / UR-Yu0U previously in service with the DBK were dismantled and, as of the beginning of 1997, 40 out of 50 silos were eliminated.

12. Kiev-Zhytomyr missile division, stationed in the area of Yoshkar-Ola and incorporating 4 regiments of the Topol PGRK (36 launchers). Previously, this division was armed with RT-2P missiles (6 regiments with 60 launchers), which have now been completely eliminated.

13. Guards Rezhitskaya Missile Division, stationed in the area of Vypolzovo, Tver Region .

14. Melitopol missile division consisting of 5 regiments of the Topol PGRK (45 launchers), stationed in the area of the city of Yurya, Kirov Region.

15. Missile division consisting of 5 regiments of the Topol PGRK (45 launchers), stationed in the area of Nizhny Tagil, Sverdlovsk region.79 area of Novosibirsk.

17. Missile division consisting of 5 regiments of the Topol PGRK (45 launchers), deployed in the area of the city of Kansk.

18. Missile division consisting of 4 regiments of the Topol PGRK (36 launchers), stationed in the area of Irkutsk.

19. Missile division consisting of 4 regiments of the Topol PGRK (36 launchers), stationed in the area of the city of Barnaul (until 1981 it was stationed in the city of Ordzhonikidze).

Kazakhstan

Two divisions of heavy ICBMs were deployed on the territory of Kazakhstan. These divisions, stationed in the city of Derzhavinsk80, Turgai Region. and the city of Zhangiztobe, Semipalatinsk region. each had 8 regiments each with 52 R-36MUTTKh/R-36M2 missile launchers.

By the end of September 1996, the liquidation of the Strategic Missile Forces in Kazakhstan was practically completed. All nuclear warheads and missiles from Kazakhstan were removed to storage and disposal sites, and the last silo launcher was eliminated in the first half of September 1996.

Ukraine

The 43rd Rocket Army was deployed in Ukraine with headquarters in Vinnitsa. The 43rd Army included the 46th (Nizhnedneprovskaya) and 19th missile divisions with headquarters in the city of Pervomaisk, Nikolaev region 81 and the city of Khmelnitsky, respectively.

The 19th missile division included 9 UR-100NUTTH regiments (90 launchers). The 46th Missile Division had 4 UR-100NUTTKh regiments (40 launchers) and 5 fixed-based RT-23UTTKh regiments (46 launchers).

By the end of 1995, all missiles had been removed from the launchers and the liquidation of 40 UR-100NUGGH launchers in Pervomaisk began.

Belarus

The 33rd and 49th missile divisions stationed on the territory of Belarus were apparently part of the 50th missile army with headquarters in Smolensk.

Divisions deployed in the area of the city of Lida, Grodno region. and the city of Mozyr, Gomel region. each had 3 regiments of the Topol PGRK (27 launchers in each division). By the end of 1996, all 54 complexes of these divisions were withdrawn to Russia. Part of the missiles was relocated to Vypolzovo and Yoshkar-Ola.

In addition, during 1991, in the area of Postavy (at the converted former base of the Pioneer PGRK), 3 more regiments of the Topol PGRK (27 launchers) were deployed for a short time. These complexes were soon withdrawn to Russia. (The Kherson missile division in Postavy was disbanded in 1993)

Thus, in connection with the liquidation of the groupings of the Strategic Missile Forces in Belarus, Kazakhstan and Ukraine, 7 divisions of the Strategic Missile Forces stationed outside the territory of Russia ceased to exist or were reorganized. In addition, in connection with the decommissioning of the UR-100K and UR-100U missile systems, two more missile divisions were disbanded in Russia:

1. Missile division stationed in the area of vil. Yasnaya, Chita region.

2. Missile division stationed in the area of the city of Svobodny, Amur Region (disbanded in 1994).

The reduction in the grouping of the Strategic Missile Forces by 9 divisions led to the need to disband 2 of the 6 missile armies that existed at the time of the collapse of the USSR. The 43rd Army (Vinnitsa) and the 50th Army (Smolensk) were disbanded. The headquarters of the remaining 4 missile armies are located in Vladimir83, Orenburg, Omsk and Chita.

Along with the reduction of organizational and staff structures in the Strategic Missile Forces, the process of forming new units is also taking place. During 1996, four more new missile regiments were put on combat duty. Some of these regiments, apparently, were transferred to the territory of Russia from Belarus.

The further reduction of strategic arms envisaged by the START-1 and START-2 Treaties, apparently will not lead to a radical change in the current organizational structure Strategic Missile Forces. The complete reduction of heavy ICBMs in the event of implementation of the START-2 Treaty will lead to the disbandment of the four existing divisions of these missiles. These reductions can be made without changing the existing army structure. The number of divisions may also remain unchanged, since the grouping of 800 Topol-type complexes corresponds to about 20 divisions of 4-5 regiments (36-45 launchers) in each.

The reorganization of the Strategic Missile Forces may be linked to the overall reform of the Russian Armed Forces. Thus, one of the proposals for military reform provides for the reunification of the Strategic Missile Forces and the Military Space Forces, which were separated in 1982. Other proposals provide for the unification of the Strategic Missile Forces, the Military Space Forces and the Air Defense Forces of the country into single view Armed Forces.
