However, time does not stand still, and the love for military equipment, coupled with constantly growing and developing technologies, contributes to the realization of the wildest expectations. Large-scale battles involving hundreds of models of radio-controlled tanks, self-propelled artillery mounts, aircraft, etc. This is not fiction, but the reality of our time. Sounds, smoke, shooting models and defeated opponents - the level of adrenaline in the blood after this just rolls over. And in order to become a part of this movement, you no longer need to make huge efforts. You just need to choose a model, and plunge headlong into the world of radio-controlled military equipment.

How to choose a tank and what are they? Conventionally, all models can be divided into 3 categories.

First - toys

This includes everything that looks (or not always) like a tank, has completely different sizes, a minimal set of functions, a low level of realism, the simplest control equipment, a lack of spare parts and, accordingly, a low cost. This is a good option for kids.

The second - full-fledged radio-controlled tanks, available in mass production

They can be of various scales (1/16, 1/24, etc.), have a significant mass (can reach 10 kg), differ in copy execution and functionality. These models are able to move forward and backward, turn left and right, turn around on the spot.

The tower rotates, the barrel can also rise and fall. Lighting equipment, sound modules and smoke generator modules are installed, which adds realism to the model. The model itself and the tracks are made of metal (or high-quality plastic), the suspension (rollers in our case) is working.

The model is set in motion by electric motors, the force from which is transmitted to the gearboxes. The control equipment is multichannel, aircraft type. Very often they are equipped with a pneumatic gun that shoots plastic balls (and at a very decent distance), or a gun with an infrared module, with which you can arrange full-fledged tank battles. The cost of such models is already significantly higher than that of toys.

You can run them both at home and on the street. They also require responsible handling, as There is a risk of injury if used incorrectly. The most famous and popular firms in this segment that have achieved recognition from modellers are Taigen, Heng Long, VS Tanks, and even Kyosho.

Third - radio-controlled tanks of large scale (1/6, 1/4), produced in a single version by a small number of manufacturers or are the result of individual design and construction

These are already very serious models with serious functionality and impressive dimensions. Their mass can reach 300 kg or more, and they can shoot with real projectiles. As a rule, they exactly copy existing models of military equipment, often even inside. In fact, this is a reduced copy. They can be equipped with both electric motors and ICE (internal combustion engine). Due to their specificity and very high cost, as well as technical complexity, it is almost impossible to see them live, but the battles with their participation are truly breathtaking.

To be more precise - the electro series, where you have the opportunity to assemble a model and equip it with a simple engine and control equipment. On the one hand, this is not yet a model, but on the other hand, it is no longer just a constructor. The most famous manufacturing companies in this segment are Lego and

And now it's time to consider a similar Chinese electronic toy - a radio-controlled tank. Online stores have various models such tanks that can be divided into the following groups:

  • Price up to 1000r. - simple tanks that can only drive back and forth and turn around.
  • 1000-3000r. - these models are more realistic, 2 times larger than the first ones, and equipped with a rotating turret.
  • 3000-5000r. - serious tanks with the ability to raise the muzzle, shoot bullets and release smoke (smoke generator).

For review, we got the most inexpensive representative of armored vehicles - a tank model Firing-3886. The cost is approximately 600 rubles. The tank itself is included, and a small box with everything you need - a charger, a control panel, 4 batteries for 1.2 V 600 mA.

Batteries must be inserted into the compartment located on the bottom of the toy after unscrewing one screw. There is also a power button.

Since there are no LEDs on the case, it is not clear whether it is on or not. Because of this, it is often forgotten to turn it off. Another very big drawback that was discovered in the process of work is the constantly flying caterpillar. It is very poorly stretched, and it is unlikely that anyone will be able to pull it up themselves - it is too long. Therefore, when cornering, it slides off the drive wheels. This is especially true when driving on soft surfaces. The third problem is the uneven movement of the right and left tracks. Because of this, the tank constantly turns slightly to the side.

Tank dismantling

Now let's look under the lid. Only two screws separate us from the insides - the circuits of the receiver and motors with a block of gears. First, a firing mechanism is found under the top cover - yes, yes, this unit surprisingly turned out to be in such a cheap copy.

Shooting is carried out with plastic balls about 5 mm in diameter. The stock of ammunition is 100 pieces, and the range is about 10 meters. They fly out pushed out by a spring pulled by the motor.

All the balls are poured into the tank at once through a small hole in the tower, closed with a plastic cap. If loaded, it is problematic to shake it back, just shoot it.

Having removed the second, inner cover, we notice a board with details of the receiver and motor control transistors. The microcircuit is standard, as for inexpensive radio control kits - RX-2B. The scheme of its connection is possible.

The motors, together with the gears of the mechanisms, are enclosed in a separate block. Although they are lubricated, they buzz quite decently during operation. You expect a slightly different sound when launching a similar toy :)

Charger

Charger pulse type, 4.8 V 250 mA. That is, the battery charge at this current will last about 4-5 hours. But even here it was not without problems - charging has extremely short plugs, and it is not possible to put them into the euro socket. Unless in a flat one, like the old model. Or buy a small adapter, using it as a plug extension, which we did.

In general, these shortcomings apply not only to this tank model, but also to all other similar radio-controlled toys of a low price category. Consider these points when buying.

Tank control panel

The 27 MHz remote control is made in the classic format - batteries are inserted into the power compartment from below (4 AA pieces of 1.5 V each), several buttons on top, and an antenna in front. The range of work is about 10 meters - quite enough for an apartment.

The current consumption of the remote control is small, so it is permissible to put even half-depleted batteries there. When you press any of the buttons, a small red LED lights up, indicating that a command signal is being transmitted.

Let's disassemble the remote control and look at the electronic stuffing. Here everything is controlled by a small black blob on the side of the tracks, the work of which is stabilized by a quartz resonator.

The power switch for the remote control is not required - it automatically turns on when you press any button. It is convenient and economical.

As for the money, the device is quite decent. The antenna on the tank, which is unreasonably long, is twisted into an arc and hooked onto the hull. A fully charged battery lasts for about 20 minutes of driving, which is an excellent result. It shoots powerfully, there are a lot of charges. The only serious drawback is the weak tracks, albeit rubber ones. But perhaps just such an instance caught. And we end our review. Good day, Dear friends! In today's article, I would like to describe to you in detail how to make a radio-controlled tank out of cardboard. Homemade differs from others in its availability, since not expensive and sometimes improvised materials and tools will be taken as the material. This homemade is good way start a new hobby of "modeling" because the shape of the tank is very simple and most likely you will not have any problems with the assembly of the tank body, so let's not pull, let's go!

And so, for this homemade product we need:
- sheets of thick cardboard.
- paper.
- two gearboxes.
- electronics from an old radio-controlled car.
- 18650 format battery.
- sandpaper.
- a plastic tube (from a lollipop).
- wooden skewers.
- bath mat (foam rubber with transverse lines)

Of the tools we will also need:
- stationery knife.
- Super glue.
- thermal glue.
- circular.
- ruler.
- awl.
- scissors.
- a simple pencil.
- cutters.

First of all, on a sheet of plain white paper, you should cut out the side part template (see photo below). Then, after the template has been cut out, we apply it to a sheet of thick cardboard and circle it with a simple pencil. Circled with a pencil, cut out a cardboard blank with a clerical knife. By cutting with a utility knife, you will get a smoother and neater cut than if you did the same with scissors.




Then, from a sheet of thick cardboard, cut out a strip approximately the same as in the photo below. Glue the cut piece to the piece cut earlier. It is most convenient to glue cardboard with thermal glue. In the end, you should get exactly the same as in the photo.






Again, a strip should be cut out of cardboard with a width equal to the width of the strip that was cut out earlier. This strip will have a less complex shape of the previous one. It should also be glued to the workpiece using a thermal glue, like the previous one.






Then we should deal with the electronic components of the homemade product. The author has already taken the filling from the tank, but you can also use it from an old broken machine, the most important thing is that we have two full-fledged channels, that is, it should turn out so that two electric motors can be connected, and they can independently rotate in different sides. And if you take the electronics from the car, then it will simply be less convenient to control the tank. Well, the design will be powered by your favorite 18650 battery, it can even be called "handy".


We make a hole in the design in the indicated place and insert the electric motor with the gearbox into it, and also stuff the entire electronic part and fix it all with the help of the glue term. On the other hand, where there will also be an electric motor, a hole should also be made for the gearbox shaft.






Taking two identical sidewalls with an awl in the indicated places, we make holes, we will need them for attaching the axles. And glue one of them on the tank.










After that, we will need to make a mechanism for rotating the tracks. To do this, take a small piece of cardboard and use a compass to draw circles on a scale approximately like in the photo (in fact, the scale of this circle is arbitrary, it will affect the gear ratio, that is, the larger the circle, the greater the speed and vice versa). In general, we need 4 such "wheels".




We also need sandpaper, which must be glued to the rim of the carved cardboard wheels. We just take paper and cut out thin strips with a thickness equal to the thickness of the wheels and glue them together with thermal glue.








After that, we need an “axle” on which the wheels will be held and rotate around their axis. As an axis, we will take a plastic straw from a lollipop. We install the wheels in a similar way and fix them to the axle with the help of thermal glue. And we attach the axle itself with wheels to the shaft of the electric motor gearbox.








We insert wooden skewers into the previously made holes and fix them on the structure with super glue.




After that, in a similar way as described earlier, we will make another 10 axles with wheels, but of a smaller diameter and without sandpaper, they will play the role of a “closer”. And install them as shown in the photo, while installing the side of the tank.


We bite off the excess length of wooden skewers with wire cutters and glue the places where the skewers are located with super glue. And on top with the help of thermal glue we glue a decorative overlay. We perform exactly the same actions on the other side.






From the foam rubber mat for the bathroom, cut out and paint the caterpillars for the tank. Having died out the desired length, cut off the excess and connect the ends of the tracks, and install them on the tank.

Tank

With its own, not at all large, price of 2000 rubles, the toy has dimensions of 32x17 centimeters. It looks very realistic, with a nice green coloring. There are thick rubber tracks on the wheels, which perfectly cling to the surface, and due to their width they do not fly off when cornering.

The body plastic is not too thick - if you hit it hard, a piece may break off, but why knock again?

The communication range with the remote control is standard, as for 27 MHz radio-controlled cars - about 10 meters. They decided to turn the antenna so that it would not stick out like a piece of steel wire, so the range dropped to 5 meters. But nothing, just around the room.

The tank is powered by an old-style nickel-cadmium battery pack, new ones are already equipped with lithium-ion batteries, which, with smaller sizes, give more current, which means they work more.

Four elements in total give 5-6 volts, with a capacity of 700 mAh. Charging lasts 5 hours, continuous work - 10 minutes. And while it is charging, thoughts are spinning in my head: if instead of a regular one, put at least one lithium battery type 18650 at 4 V 4000 mAh, that's when ... Dreams, dreams.

Disassembly

Some have noticeably perked up. Inside, a block of motors and gears is installed on the running gear. Control board, an electric motor that turns the turret and several LEDs around the perimeter.

I forgot to say - the lighting effects here are on top. The front LED headlights are white, the rear brake lights, a line of LEDs is lit from above. When a cannon is fired, the muzzle flashes, and when a machine gun is fired, a small side LED flashes. Moreover, when turned on, the wheels start flashing red and blue.

This tank is designed to fight with a similar device. Which is carried out by firing an infrared beam captured by another tank using a photodiode (a red round thing is on top of the tower). And from each hit, the line of LEDs decreases by one. Until the kirdyk comes. I think it's fun :)

Let's continue with the schema. The parts board contains a receiver module, a decoder, motor control keys, and a sound effects generator. Watch the video at the end of the article and listen to them. You can see a small speaker, which nevertheless works loudly, too loudly. After listening to this beeping and roaring, I thought for several minutes how to make him a volume control. Moreover, it consumes a lot of current - even with idle motors, only imitating the sound of a running engine, as much as 180 mA. Ugliness!

But a 56 ohm resistor installed in series with it corrected the situation by reducing the current by 3 times. Now he hums quietly and pleasantly, and does not roar for the whole apartment, especially when shots are fired.

Remote controller

The remote control is comfortable, made of durable plastic. Several times successfully held blows on the floor. Eats only two AA batteries. On the remote control are buttons for the direction of movement (in the form of levers), a button for firing a machine gun, cannon, and turning the turret. And, of course, turning the machine on and off.

Let's take it apart and see what's inside. Transmitter on a FLTX9B chip and a pair of UHF transistors. The power button for the remote control is not required, since until you press any of the buttons, it does not consume current at all. Comfortable.

The antenna is made in the form of a steel spiral coated with rubber. This is much better than telescopic, as it can be bent and not afraid to break. And that's what kids usually do.
