Ural enterprises assembled two prototypes of the IS-6 heavy tank, which differed significantly from each other, in fact, being different vehicles. The first copy was equipped with an electromechanical transmission, the second one was equipped with conventional mechanics. The design of the hull, turret and undercarriage of each of them largely repeated the solutions used by Chelyabinsk engineers to create other machines. The hulls of both prototypes were no different from each other, so outwardly the tanks looked like "twin brothers"

The idea of an electromechanical transmission (hereinafter referred to as EMT) captured the minds of tank builders at the end of the First World War. Unlike a mechanical transmission, EMT does not contain such complex components as the main and onboard clutches, as well as a gearbox (hereinafter referred to as the gearbox), since these units are replaced by two electric motors that independently drive each of the tracks. The transmission, working on this principle, greatly simplifies the management of the tank, as the vehicle acquires incredible maneuverability and maneuverability. Particular attention promising development summoned to the USSR. Such a scheme promised to make the tank more reliable - it's no secret that the Soviet armored vehicles the quality of friction clutches and gearboxes "limped" for a number of both objective and subjective reasons. The question for the designers was only the problem of supplying electric motors - it was solved by placing a generator in the tank body, the rotor of which rotated a conventional internal combustion engine. The installation of the generator significantly weighed down the entire structure, in addition, a significant drawback of the EMT was the high consumption of expensive and scarce copper, which was used in the windings of electric motors and generators. However, some designers believed that the new transmission more than compensates for these shortcomings by improving the combat performance of the tank.

Debut of EMT in France and the USSR

In 1921, the FCM shipbuilding company, commissioned by the French Ministry of War, built ten of the largest Char 2C tanks in the world, on which EMT was installed for the first time in world tank building. Two gasoline engines were connected by shafts to two electric generators, from which the electric motors that set the car in motion were powered. The EMT made it easier to control the tank and made it incredibly maneuverable - the Char 2C made turns of any radius without losing internal power. The driver of such a tank did not need to switch the gearshift lever to increase or decrease speed at all (everything was regulated by the “gas” pedal).

The idea soon became known in the Soviet Union, which began the rapid development of its own tank building in the 30s. In 1935-36, the designers of the Moscow Military Academy of Mechanization and Motorization named after I.V. Stalin (hereinafter - VAMM) tried to design an EMT using trolleybus units and mount it on a T-26 tank. The weight of the installation turned out to be relatively acceptable (1.8 tons), but it did not develop the necessary power, and its further development was abandoned.

Already during the Great Patriotic War, in 1941-43, VAMM specialists continued their research in Chelyabinsk together with the designers of the Dynamo Moscow plant evacuated there and the Chelyabinsk Kirov Plant (hereinafter - ChKZ). This time, the EMT was developed for the KV-1 tank (in the documents the project was called EKV), but it turned out to be too bulky and, in addition to the engine compartment (hereinafter - MTO), occupied half of the combat one.

Trophies of Dr. Porsche

In 1940 German troops captured France, and among their trophies was one almost intact Char 2C tank, the device of which was familiarized with the famous German designer and entrepreneur Ferdinand Porsche. In 1941, his company entered into a competitive race with Henschel & Sons for the right to design the Pz.Kpfw.VI Tiger heavy tank. In his prototype VK4501 (P), later also called Pz.Kpfw.VI "Tiger P" ("Porsche type 101"), the designer implemented the EMT idea borrowed from the French. It also served as the official reason that military customers chose a competitor's tank - the production of the VK4501 (P) required too much scarce copper.

However, Hitler, who favored the genius of design thought, without waiting for official decisions from the military, personally ordered the production of the Tiger R to begin, and the factories managed to produce about a hundred tank chassis and turrets. In order not to incur losses, the zealous Germans converted 90 vehicles with EMT into self-propelled guns "Ferdinand" (later - self-propelled guns "Elephant") with monstrous 200-mm frontal armor at that time, impenetrable for the vast majority of Soviet self-propelled guns and tanks. In the battle for Kursk Bulge, where the Wehrmacht was defeated, a significant part of these machines was lost. A certain number of Ferdinands went to the winners, and Soviet designers got the opportunity to get acquainted with the device of the new German self-propelled guns.

Particularly keen interest of representatives of the Department of the Chief Designer of the People's Commissariat of the Tank Industry (hereinafter referred to as the OGK NKTP) was caused by the EMT self-propelled guns designed by Dr. Porsche and the shaftless gearbox of the Tiger tank. And about. Head of Department I.S. Behr stated in his report:

“... of the greatest interest for domestic tank building are the gearboxes and turning mechanisms of the T-6N Tiger tank and the T-6R Ferdinand assault gun ... The control of these heavy vehicles is very easy and convenient in the opinion of test drivers ... In the present. time OGK NKTP conducts research. work on studying the features of transmissions. tanks with a view to the possible implementation of the most successful solutions in domestic tank building ... "

On November 13-17, 1943, the OGK NKTP, together with the VAMM and the Scientific and Automotive Institute, under the general supervision of the Deputy Head of the Main Automotive and Armored Directorate, Major General I.A. Lebedev formulated tactical and technical requirements (hereinafter - TTT) for "tank self-propelled breakthrough high power". Preliminary design was carried out in the design bureau of the Uralmash plant, located in Sverdlovsk and from the beginning of December 1943 to the summer of 1944 headed by L.S. Troyanov.

The project of the ESU-100 experimental self-propelled guns largely repeated the layout of the captured Ferdinand: the designers placed the conning tower in the rear of the vehicle, and power unit- in front. With this solution, the risk of sticking the gun into the ground on very rough terrain was minimized (this often happened with Soviet tanks and self-propelled guns, the turrets and cabins of which were arranged in front). It also provided for the installation of a 152-mm gun system, effective both in suppressing enemy strongholds and in destroying his tanks. Transfer torque it was planned to carry out from the engine to the drive rollers using EMT, which increased the weight of the self-propelled gun by three tons compared to self-propelled guns with a mechanical transmission.

At the same time, in early December 1943, in a separate design office(hereinafter - Design Bureau) of the Chelyabinsk Experimental Plant No. 100 under the general supervision of the director of the enterprise Zh.Ya. Kotin, work began on a draft design in accordance with the TTT of a heavy tank with EMT provided by military customers. By the summer of 1944, the Design Bureau prepared drawings of two variants of the machine with the IS-6 index, the layout of which, unlike the ESU-100, was made “classic”. The workers made a wooden model of the future tank, in the body of which they placed a real diesel engine and EMT elements.

"Electric" tank from the Urals

In accordance with the order State Committee Defense of June 8, 1944, the designers of Uralmash joined the work of the Chelyabinsk citizens, who had already gained some experience in creating their self-propelled guns. ChKZ engineers were not involved in this project due to their busy work on the "Object 701" (the future IS-4 tank). The simultaneous development of the IS-6 and IS-4 can be viewed as a competitive race in which the design teams of Uralmash and Plant No. 100, on the one hand, and ChKZ, on the other, fought for a “place in the sun” for their brainchildren.

Main design work were already completed in the design bureau of plant No. 100 (it was headed by A.S. Ermolaev), in addition, a significant part of them fell to the share of the designers of Uralmash, since the production of working drawings was carried out there. Plant No. 100 was engaged in the manufacture of the hull and most of the units, the final assembly of the machine was carried out by Uralmash.

In total, the Ural enterprises assembled two prototypes of the IS-6, which differed significantly from each other, in fact, being different machines (they passed under the same military index solely because of the same hull design). The first copy, designated as "Object 253" (leading engineer of the machine - M.I. Kreslavsky), was equipped with an EMT, on the second ("Object 252"), conventional mechanics were installed. The design of the hull, turret and undercarriage of each of them largely repeated the solutions used by Chelyabinsk engineers to create other machines. The hulls of both prototypes were no different from each other, so outwardly the tanks looked like "twin brothers".

"Mechanical" IS-6

The prototype of the tank "Object 252" was made in October 1944. Its transmission was not much different from that installed on the IS-2, however, significant changes were made to the design of stamped rollers - their number remained the same (six on each side), but the diameter increased to 750 mm, which made it possible to abandon the supporting rollers. Previously, this undercarriage was successfully tested on an experimental "Object 244", loaded to the required mass with cast iron ingots. Thanks to the use of a mechanical transmission, the Object 252 was lighter than the second IS-6 prototype equipped with an EMT (51.5 tons versus 54) and faster (43 km/h versus 34). Each caterpillar of the tank was recruited from ninety tracks, the width of which was 720 mm, the pitch was 160 mm.

The layout of the IS-6 repeated the classic Soviet scheme: the control compartment was located in front, followed by the fighting compartment and logistics. As a power plant, a V-12U diesel engine with a power of 750 hp was used, located in the stern of the tank. The capacity of the main fuel tanks, which were also in the MTO, was 640 liters. In addition, four additional tanks with a capacity of 100 liters each were attached to the sides of the hull. The range of the car on the highway on the main fuel tanks reached 150 km (for comparison, the "Tiger" - 80 km).

The thickness of the armor of the upper frontal sheet, which was located at an angle of 65 °, was 100 mm, the lower one, welded at a less rational angle of 52 °, was cut out of 120 mm steel. The thickness of the sides of the IS-6 reached 100 mm, the aft armor - 60 mm, the roof - 30 mm, the bottom - 20-30 mm.

The bottom of the hull of the IS-6 was given a trough-like shape, due to which the height of the side armor was slightly reduced without losing the reserved volume - this technical solution later "migrated" from the IS-6 to the design of the IS-3 and other heavy Soviet tanks. Armor sheets were connected into a spike and welded with austenitic electrodes, which contained nickel, which was inaccessible to the Soviet state (the Norilsk deposit was just beginning to be developed at that time). In total, when welding the hull of one tank, up to 60 kg of this metal was consumed.

The side walls of the cast tower were located at an angle of 35 ° and had a thickness of 150 mm, the aft wall - at an angle of 25 ° (its thickness reached 100 mm).

In the control compartment, the driver’s seat, mechanisms and control devices were located exactly in the center, and an escape hatch was mounted behind him in the bottom of the tank. The course machine gun and the place of the gunner-radio operator were not provided. The department housed part of the ammunition rack and a set of spare parts. In the upper frontal armor plate, a large rectangular hatch was mounted for the disembarkation / landing of the driver, which was closed with an armored cover with a balancing mechanism.

Next was the fighting compartment with a three-man turret, which housed a 122-mm D-30T separate-loading gun with a muzzle brake. It differed from the D-25T gun, which was installed on the IS-2, by the presence of a projectile rammer and a mechanism for purging the bore after firing. The gunner was located to the left of the gun, and the loader was to the right. The commander's seat was located behind the gunner. The ammunition load of shells and charges was calculated for 30 shots, and starting speed armor-piercing projectile reached 790 m / s. For firing, a telescopic tank sight TBSh was used, and when firing from closed positions- side level and tower goniometer. The vertical pointing angles of the gun ranged from -3° to +20°.

Together with the gun, on the bracket of its cradle in the gun mantlet, a course 7.62-mm machine gun SGMT (tank version of the SG-43 system of P.M. Goryunov) was installed, equipped with an electric trigger. He possessed the best performance than the previously used 7.62 mm DT machine gun of the 1929 model. The SGMT ammunition load was 1200 rounds. A movable turret with a 12.7 mm DShK anti-aircraft machine gun was mounted on the roof of the tower, and a portable ammunition load consisting of five hundred 12.7 mm rounds was relied on. On the anti-aircraft machine gun a K8-T collimator sight was installed.

All shells were placed in the fighting compartment: in the niche of the tower and vertical stacking in the tank hull. The shells were laid in the fighting compartment (in the niches of the hull, on the bottom, on the right wall of the turret), as well as in the control compartment.

The places of the commander and the driver were equipped with two prism observation devices MK-4 each. The gunner and loader each had one such device at their disposal. For external communication, the crew used the 10-R transceiver station, and for negotiations inside the tank, the TPU-4bisF tank intercom.

Heavyweight with "advanced" transmission

The prototype "Object 253" was made in October-November 1944. Its main difference from most Soviet tanks was the EMT. Power point the tank was rotated by the main generator (hereinafter - GG) DK-305A with a power of 385 kW and a mass of 1740 kg, installed coaxially with it. In one block with the GG, on a common shaft, there was a synchronous three-phase current generator SG-1A, from which the electric motors of the MTO cooling system fans and traction motors were powered, as well as a rechargeable battery charger. The working GG was very overheated, so it needed to be constantly blown with a supply air stream, and therefore additional ventilation equipment was installed in the MTO of the Object 253.

Two small DC generators G-73 were also placed there, which fed the rotors of the DK-305A and SG-1A electric generators. Reversible traction motors DK-302A and DK-302B with a power of 164 kW each were also placed in the MTO and connected to the drive wheels of the tank through final drives, providing automatic torque control in accordance with changes in resistance to movement. The thrust force was regulated by the strength of the current supplied to the main generator. The strength of the working current reached when driving on the highway - 490 A, on rough terrain - 740 A. The voltage in the circuit was 500 V.

Two round hatches were cut in the aft inclined sheet for access to the transmission elements, which were closed with hinged covers with two locks. In the middle part of the upper stern sheet, brackets were welded on the sides for attaching two MDSH smoke bombs, and in the lower part of the zygomatic sheets, two towing loops.

The total mass of the EMT was 3850 kg, that is, 4-5 times the mass of the mechanical transmission of the IS-2 tank (980 kg) and the KV-1S tank (740 kg). The additional weight made the Object 253 significantly heavier, which affected its cross-country ability.

The chassis of the "Object 253" almost completely repeated the design of the mass-produced IS-2 tank for a long time. It used six road wheels with individual torsion bar suspension and three support rollers. Another notable feature of the Object 253, which greatly distinguished it from the Object 252, was the brackets holding additional fuel tanks located in the front of the tank on beveled frontal armor plates.

Unacceptable innovation

Factory tests of the "Object 253" began extremely unsuccessfully. Here is what the project manager M.I. Kreslavsky:

“... The first departure of the tank from the factory was the last. After 10 kilometers, the car lost control. It turned out that the power electrical equipment was a fire hazard and refused to work.

When the tank overcame a snow-covered field in the MTO, a fire broke out due to overheating. The fire was extinguished, the car was repaired and instead of the aft armor plate, a steel sheet was installed, in which an additional electric fan was placed to cool the MTO. After repairs and work to improve the design in November 1944, the Object 253 nevertheless passed factory tests.

The second car, which used EMT (self-propelled gun ESU-100), was not sold in metal. Her project, along with materials on other self-propelled guns, was considered in October 1944 at a special meeting of the Technical Council of the NKTP with the participation of employees of the Self-Propelled Artillery Department. Military experts considered it irrational to use EMT on medium weight armored vehicles, since after analyzing the documentation it turned out that the mass and cost of self-propelled guns increased significantly, but there was no significant increase in its combat characteristics. As a result of work on the ESU-100, they decided to stop.

For the "Object 252" factory tests, conducted from 8 to 27 November 1944, were less dramatic. However, its new undercarriage with large-diameter road wheels turned out to be extremely unreliable (the rollers deformed after 200-250 kilometers), so the engineers had to change their design. Problems also arose with the 122-mm D-30 tank gun, developed in the design bureau of the Sverdlovsk plant No. 9 - automatic equipment often failed, and on November 17, 1944, the gun finally failed, and it needed factory repairs.

Finally, both prototypes, along with spare parts kits and a spare body, were sent to a research site in Kubinka near Moscow. Tests of the IS-6 hull by shelling from captured 88-mm and 105-mm German guns confirmed its strength - it did not penetrate the upper armor plate from a fifty-meter distance, and the lower 120-mm armor plate was hit only from short distance. These figures turned out to be slightly higher than those of the IS-2 or IS-3, but worse than those of the Object 701 (the future IS-4 tank). In addition, from the point of view of military customers, the EMT prototype was unnecessarily heavy and expensive due to the need to use copper in its production.

Shooting tests did not reveal significant advantages of the new 122-mm D-30T tank gun over the 122-mm D-25T gun of the 1943 model, mounted on the IS-2. But due to the innovations introduced, the cost artillery system almost doubled, which is unlikely to please picky receivers.

As a result, both variants of the IS-6 tank were not accepted for service, and the military customers abandoned the idea of their further development. According to some sources, the prototypes were sent for scrapping, according to others, after the end of the Great Patriotic War, the Object 253 was brought to Leningrad as a museum exhibit (where exactly this copy was stored and what kind of further fate, unknown to the author). In the competitive race of giants, the IS-4 tank finally won, mass production which began in 1947.

Tactics of the game on the IS-6

The main advantage is the relatively high rate of fire. This serious plus can only be realized in an attack with support, imposing a maneuverable battle on the enemy and shooting him in the sides and stern. In the clinch, you need to act as carefully as possible - if the enemy’s gun is located high, he can shoot the IS into the roof of the tower and MTO with impunity. Armor allows him to feel confident in battle against tanks below the level. However, an artillery hit is guaranteed to incapacitate two or three crew members. In this case, it remains to rely on the support of the allies. The main thing to remember is the penetration zones of the IS-6. This machine does not have obvious vulnerabilities (), but the driver's hatch on the upper armor plate can cause a lot of trouble in battle against especially well-aimed amers and Germans. The main penetration zone of the IS6 is the tower. they hit him even in the mask of the gun, so the tactics of playing on is 6 must be chosen individually from the map and the composition of the team.

Why is the IS-6 needed in World of Tanks?

Like all premium WoT tanks- for pharma. A novice tanker may be disappointed with the small amount of silver earned on the IS-6 World of Tanks. Indeed, in order to use this tank as efficiently as possible, you need to have solid experience in fighting on ISs and . Having "stuffed their hand" on "budget" brothers, experienced "isovods" regularly bring 15 - 20 thousand silver "clean" without . Do not forget about the extra. modules - a rammer, reinforced aiming drives and a stabilizer significantly increase the effectiveness in battle and make it easier to farm.

One of the best Soviet tanks is the IS 6. Find out in the review where to get it and how to upgrade it, how to use it in battle and what ammunition to take with you. Use the advantages of this machine!

The Is 6 tank is a Soviet premium heavy vehicle of the eighth tier. It is protected by excellent armor located at rational angles, has good mobility, camouflage due to its low silhouette and high one-time damage. The main disadvantages can be considered extremely low accuracy and armor penetration.

Where to get

The price in the store HERE inside the game is 11800 gold. This is quite a lot when compared to the cost of the Lion, the most expensive premium tank, which costs 12500 gold.

There was a time when the IS-6 could be obtained by completing a combat mission, which consisted of earning 100,000 experience for each branch on the sixth level iron.

Now you can buy this heavy Soviet monster only for real money or gold.

What is armed

The caterpillar monster is equipped with a D-30 gun, which has a caliber of 122 mm. This gun is comparable in many respects to guns of the same caliber from the KV-1S, KV-3 and IS. They just have a huge spread (0.46), and mixing takes as much as 3.4 seconds. It must be said that the penetration of a conventional projectile is 175 mm, a sub-caliber projectile is 217 mm, while the one-time damage is 390 units.

The rate of fire of the tank is 6 is 5.13 rounds per minute. This is higher than the IS-3, the usual heavy Soviet slug for level 8. The one-time damage of the IS-3 and IS-6 is exactly the same, which means that premium vehicles will have an advantage in damage per minute.

Impression of the gun: It is not so easy to control the gun, high damage per minute is, of course, good, but it is difficult to implement it due to the disgusting spread and low penetration of the projectile. The stabilization of the gun in motion helps a little, but in general, the weapon needs to be approached.

corners vertical aiming on this powerful giant are also small, so they do not allow you to shoot because of the hillocks.

We can say that the IS-6 has sufficient mobility, and this is despite the fact that the maximum speed of the vehicle is only 35 km/h. You can quickly gain maximum speed due to the excellent power density.

Protection: frontal armor

Frontal armor is only 100 millimeters, but the upper armor plate is perfectly protected due to the large slope. The IS is equipped with relatively small screens; in combat, they often save from enemy projectiles.

The best distance in combat

The optimal combat distance is close or medium, it makes no sense to go to the far one.

You can use a medium tank style breach, which is a great tactic for the Soviet premium class. With the help of excellent dynamics, you can quickly change positions and support the team with fire.

Defense lovers will be disappointed: it is better not to stand on the defensive with this car. The D-30 gun will not be able to repel an enemy attack from afar. It is better to play in the attack - this powerful armored horse with a huge weapon damage will never be superfluous.

IS-6 crew

Since the IS-6 can be called a breakthrough technique, the crew will need to improve their skills. Getting new skills for the crew should minimize the disadvantages and enhance the strengths: armor and damage. Therefore, the following perks are considered the most useful skills for the crew:

  1. Repair - this skill is extremely important for the IS-6, because if you lose the track, you will lose the initiative, as a result of which you will become an easy target. Then the enemy will easily destroy the equipment, and deprive the strike group of a powerful weapon.
  2. Virtuoso - will improve the mobility of the IS-6, the gunner should study the smooth turn of the turret, and the mechanical water a smooth ride. As a result, the aiming time after turning the turret and stopping will be reduced.
  3. The gunner will always need the sniper skill, thanks to which the IS will be able to smash enemy tanks much more efficiently.
  4. The loader will suit the “intuition” and “desperate” perks.
  5. The commander, as usual, needs to learn the sixth sense and additionally "jack of all trades".

Combat brotherhood, although not necessary, but it will improve all performance characteristics. As is ventilation.

Battle monster speed

Max speed of this combat monster is quite small - only 35 km / h, however, given the weight of the equipment, this is quite a worthy indicator. The specific engine power is 13.5 hp. per ton, which can neither rejoice. The car picks up these 35 km / h very quickly, that is, the acceleration speed is just excellent.

The chassis turns the car at a speed of 26 degrees per second, therefore, even a light opponent is unlikely to be able to spin you.

Thus, the machine has outstanding dynamics for heavy tank. Excellent armor allows you to survive even when surrounded by enemy vehicles.

What to equip

You can put a rammer on it, which can reduce the reload time. The stabilizer is also a useful thing, it is needed for faster information, both from a standstill and on the go. Reinforced aiming drives will allow you to converge faster, which is very important.

Equipment of the powerful IS-6

We will not talk much about equipment, since everything is standard here: a first aid kit, a repair kit and a fire extinguisher.

Ammunition 35% and 55%

Ammunition can be loaded in a ratio of 35% to 55% with armor-piercing and sub-caliber shells. This ratio is better to take for the simple reason that the penetration of the gun is relatively low, so sub-caliber shells will be more relevant. They will help to effectively fight the IS-3, KV-4 and other equipment with increased armor protection.

Important: You can also report 2-3 land mines for battles involving lightly armored German anti-tank guns and a guaranteed defeat of the base capture.

Preferential level of battles

This Soviet technique has a preferential level of battles. This means that a fighter can only meet opponents of the ninth level. However, higher tier heavy tanks are still difficult targets for ISs. Therefore, it is better to fight together with medium tanks, which, although you will lag behind, will still not affect the quality of the battle. It will be even better this way - you will drive up to the enemy when the team needs your help.

Pros and cons

And now let's sum it up. Tank is 6 has advantages, including good mobility, the presence of screens, high DPM, good level acceleration, excellent all-round armor, low silhouette for camouflage. In addition, the crew can be upgraded.

The disadvantages are not very good review, small ammunition load, low firing accuracy, small radius of the radio, low armor penetration.

IS-6 performance characteristics

The IS-6 is a heavy tank, so it cannot boast of high speed performance. The maximum speed of the car is 35 km / h, however, the equipment accelerates quite briskly, has good maneuverability and dynamics. Accordingly, in case of urgent need, you can quickly change the flank.

The IS-6 is equipped with a 122 mm D-30 gun, which has a fairly good rate of fire. However, when firing at long distances, the projectile often does not reach the intended target. In addition, quite often you can hear painfully offensive phrases “didn’t break through” and “hit”. It is worth noting that the view of the car is extremely low - only 350 meters, so the shooting is carried out only at someone else's light.

A lot of players complain about bad LHP, but this parameter has never been a strong point of Soviet vehicles. For comparison, we can recall the "Chinese", who really suffer because of frankly weak vertical guidance angles. If we recall the unsuccessful shooting at long range, then no one canceled the hit "from a turntable" for Soviet strands, and the IS-6 was no exception to this rule of randomness.

The armor penetration of the tank is 175 mm for the base projectile, which, combined with a one-time damage of 350 units, is an average indicator at the level. At the same time, do not forget that we are talking about premium vehicles that have a lower level of battles. Therefore, he throws the sixth IS to a maximum of nines, which makes him feel quite confident. Loadable ammunition: 30 shells, which is enough for 15 minutes of combat. However, the choice between BB and BP is up to the player.

Equipment on IS 6

Additional equipment is selected as standard for a Soviet heavy tank. The recommended choice might be:

  • Rammer - to reduce reload time.
  • Stabilizer - to reduce spread.
  • Reinforced aiming drives - so that the gun is brought to the target faster.

The stabilizer can be replaced with improved ventilation to boost everything TTX of the tank.

IS-6 Crew Perks

The crew of the sixth IS has four people, due to the fact that we are dealing with premium equipment, it is possible to transplant tankers without any problems Soviet branch development and pump them out necessary skills.
Do not forget that after the purchase, the tank automatically acquires the status of an elite vehicle, so the crew quickly gains experience and has an additional bonus to pumping. Don't forget to check the corresponding box in the hangar, otherwise you will accumulate useless experience.

How to play the IS-6

The IS-6 is a breakthrough tank that feels confident in close combat with classmates and lower-level vehicles. In battles with nines, we will no longer feel so at ease, so we retrain as a support tank: we help teammates to push or hold the direction. In any case, the choice of tactics will depend on the specific situation on the battlefield.
The tank has a low profile and good side armor, so you can confidently play from the terrain, breaking into uneven terrain. The armor is located at good angles, so the tank will often catch ricochets from enemy shells and receive a “Steel Wall” as a result of the battle. Where to punch IS 6 we will tell in the next article, about the most vulnerabilities and how to tank properly. Side screens also play their role, which will help to maintain a margin of safety for inexperienced tankers. However, when encountering higher vehicles, you will have to get into the commander's cupola: this is the weakest point that tanks can easily break through to a lower level.

IS-6 is one of the tier 8 tanks in game world of tanks. As for the real prototype of the gaming machine, its development was completed in 1944, after which the engineers began to create prototype. However, after field testing, it became clear that this model was unprofitable, so it was never put into mass production. However, the vehicle is present in the World of Tanks video game. IS-6 is a heavy premium soviet tank, which has both a number of advantages and serious disadvantages, about this and much more below.

Tactical and technical characteristics

First of all, it should be noted the purchase price, which is quite high and amounts to 11,800 gold. For a tier 8 tank, this vehicle has low durability, which is 1550.

As for the gun, its parameters correspond to similar guns of such tanks as the KV-1S and KV-3. The slow convergence, which takes 3.4 seconds, is exacerbated by a huge spread, which reaches 0.46. However, the penetration of the cannon is still high, and the one-time damage is 390. The penetration of standard shells is 175 mm, for sub-caliber shells - 217 mm.

What will please the owner of this is the rate of fire, which is equal to 5.13 rounds per minute. It is worth noting that this figure is higher than that of many similar non-premium heavy tanks, such as the IS-3. Even taking into account the same one-time damage per minute, this figure for the IS-6 is higher.

However, there are also disadvantages here, since this gun makes a double impression. Although it has a high potential damage per minute, it turns out to be completely incapable of realizing it due to long aiming, huge dispersion and low penetration by a standard projectile. These negative points are partly justified by the good stabilization of the gun during movement, which is much better than that of models such as the KV-1S and IS.

Since the elevation angles of this tank are average (the gun goes down only 6 degrees), playing on hills can become problematic.

Speed

The maximum speed that the IS-6 is capable of developing is only 35 km / h. This indicator can hardly be considered good, but for a heavy tank it is not bad. Nevertheless, fans will be pleased with the good specific power of the machine, which is equal to 700 hp. This indicator helps the tank to reach maximum speed very quickly.

The chassis turning speed reaches 26 degrees per second, which will protect the owner of the vehicle from light tanks that cannot spin the Soviet vehicle.

This premium model gives the impression of a good heavy tank with good mobility and dynamics. An important advantage can be considered good armor, which, combined with maneuverability, will allow you to fight even behind enemy lines, avoiding serious damage. The main thing is not to forget to turn the case with a diamond to protect weak spots tank.

IS-6 penetration zones

The armor of this model fully complies with the requirements for a heavy tank of the 8th level. The thickness of the frontal part, as well as the body, is 100 mm. Favorable for the owner of the armored vehicle will be the fact that it has excellent tilt angles, which significantly increase the likelihood of a rebound.

The security of the vehicle can be called into question, given that tank destroyers of the 8th level can also break through it. However, if you constantly monitor your position and hide the lower part of the frontal part, then most enemy tanks will not be able to deal any damage to you.

It is possible to use a technique such as “side tanking”, but for this it is recommended to leave the cover in a reverse diamond.

As for the armor of the tower, since its thickness reaches 150 mm, it is unlikely that single-level tanks will be able to inflict at least some damage to this place. However, any armored vehicle will have vulnerabilities.

When answering the question of where to pierce the IS-6, first of all it should be noted its “cheeks”, which are much more susceptible to damage than similar single-level machines, for example, the IS-3. If you are the owner of this tank, then in order to avoid getting hit, it is recommended that you turn the turret a little, since there are quite good tilt angles here. This will help avoid taking damage from an enemy vehicle. To improve the security of the tank, you can install a gun mask on it.

How to deal with opponents of 8-9 levels

A pleasant advantage of the tank can rightfully be considered preferential level fights. The IS-6 will not meet enemy tanks higher than level 9 on the battlefield, which is quite logical due to the shortcomings of the gun. But problems can arise even with heavy vehicles of level 8 opponents, given the penetration by a standard projectile. Therefore, the fight against medium tanks or anti-tank installations will be optimal. The owner of this machine should stick to allied MTs, it is with such tactics that you can gain the maximum amount of damage. There will be no problems with single-level vehicles, and good damage per minute will only help to become a thunderstorm for the enemy team.

Top

If the tank was in the top and got to the vehicles of a lower level, the most rational strategy in this case would be the role of a typical heavy tank. However, even under such circumstances, one should not rely on good armor, because he has very weak spots, not even considering that the enemy can switch to using "gold" projectiles. Therefore, do not hide from enemy shells behind the backs of allies, act aggressively, but do not forget that you need to cover your easily penetrated parts.

Equipment

Usually, experienced tankers put the following equipment on the vehicle: stabilizer, rammer and drives. Because the main problem when playing on this tank, it is a long mixing, do not forget about improving the damage indicators. Even considering a weak walkie-talkie, it is not recommended to install coated optics, because it will do little to increase the view.

Conclusion

This Soviet TT, although not the most best tank for "farm", it still allows you to inflict serious damage on enemy forces when used. Good maneuverability and pleasant dynamics allow the car to remain on a par with similar specimens. Given that the tank is not very popular, it is quite common to find a code for the IS-6 that allows you to get it cheaper than usual.
