Against the background of the average marks of the region, the temperature indicators will differ by 1.3 degrees upwards. Therefore, we can say with confidence that literally from the first days of winter, frosty weather will set in the Republic with a thermometer mark of -15 ... -20 degrees. It remains only to study in more detail the information about the coming winter in Belarus.

Preliminary information

Of course, it is almost impossible to tell with certainty what the weather will be like after such a long period of time, and therefore you have to turn to the marks of past years for help.

It is clear that the first serious cooling will come after a wet and dank November. Already at the end of the last autumn month the air temperature will begin to drop significantly, although in the daytime the thermometer will not be able to drop below 0. There will be practically no snow during this period, and what still falls will immediately melt.

The second calendar month of winter will look more like its literary prototype: real frosts will begin, sunny weather will reign for a short time, and the air will be filled with arctic freshness. At the beginning of the month, the time of slush, dullness and high humidity. Closer to the Old New Year, winter will suddenly remember what it should be like. In several days temperature regime it stabilizes at minus levels, and sometimes on a thermometer it will be possible to see a record -20 degrees of frost at all. The beginning of the third decade of January will be marked by heavy snowfalls - northern winds will manifest themselves. It is this kind of weather that can cause the peak viral diseases so don't stay outside too long. Tourist season in Belarus

Belarus is still only developing as an attractive tourist destination, but for many it is still a little-known country that has retained its special secret after the fall of the communist regime. Today, everything here gives off echoes of the USSR, so those who are nostalgic for Soviet times. At the same time, Belarus lives not only in the past. It attracts lovers of pristine nature, naturalness, endless opportunities for eco-tourism, powerful recreational potential, a serious excursion program and interesting culture. About 4.5 million foreigners visit the country every year, 30% of the total entry flow is Russian. Tourist season lasts all year round: in summer it is a forced march through national parks and museums, and in winter it is a holiday in ski resorts.

High season in Belarus

Far from many tourists include Belarus in their summer vacation plans, however, increased demand among travelers is observed precisely in given time year, when the weather favors a countryside holiday in the bosom of nature, or health improvement. Many tourists living near the border perceive a trip to Belarusian resorts as a trip to the country, because here you can go fishing, take a steam bath, and go picking mushrooms and berries. It should be noted that prices in the summer season are somewhat overpriced: some resorts and hotels set a price tag 1.5-2 times higher than the standard rates in the off-season. This is one of the main reasons for the suspension of the growth of the tourist flow to the country. Cheap, according to the rooted tourist legend about Belarus, rest can only be in institutions inherited from Soviet Union. Newly built boarding houses and recreation centers have almost the same cost level as Russian ones. But if you want to save a little, there is a way out - take advantage of the option early booking tours available since March. As a rule, this guarantees a 10%-30% discount. Also keep in mind that August rates are 10%-25% higher than June rates.

Low season in Belarus

In winter, prices for trips to Belarus, as well as train and plane tickets, are reduced, but despite this, hotels remain only 50% occupied. Those who still choose to go on vacation prefer ski resorts and health centers. The largest concentration of Russians is observed at this time in the Gomel, Mogilev and Minsk regions, located near the border with Russia.

The best time for excursions

What is in Belarus is a rhetorical question. Everything is here and in abundance: National parks(for example, the well-known Bialowieza Forest) with crystal mirrors of lakes and birch groves, historical and cultural reserves, memorial complexes, authentic palace and park estates, ancient churches, numerous museums and much more. The choice of excursion programs is actually great, so at first you can even get confused. Some trips are designed for the whole day - with an early departure and a late return to the hotel, and the prevailing weather at this time can easily disrupt all plans. Moreover, the difference between daytime and evening temperatures is quite significant. The most favorable period for getting acquainted with the natural, cultural and historical heritage of the country is late spring, summer and the first two weeks of September. At the same time, even at the agreed time after sunset, the air quickly cools down and it becomes cold. For these reasons, we recommend taking a warm jacket or sweater on the road.

Ski season in Belarus

A few years ago, Belarus could not even think of ski centers. Today it has several ski resorts, equipment and level of service which is about to meet Western European standards. "Little Switzerland" - this is how this country is now called for salubrious climate, scenic landscapes, fresh air, and today - for a tribute to tradition winter holiday on the snow. Unfortunately, there are no mountain ranges in the country, however, this did not prevent her from equipping modern ski resorts on the existing hills and slopes. The skiing season opens at the beginning - in the middle of December and lasts until the end of March. Ideal coverage on the slopes is maintained with the help of an artificial snow system. At this time, the average daily air temperature is about -5..-7 °C. The largest influx of tourists is observed on the eve of the New Year and Christmas holidays, and, accordingly, prices increase slightly during this period.

Wellness season

Unique microclimate, good ecology, rich natural and recreational resources (such as silt, saprol mud, several types mineral waters etc.) became a good "soil" for the development of sanatorium and resort business in Belarus. About 70% of the foreign inflow into the country rushes to sanatoriums, the other 20% are placed in recreation centers and health centers. All of them are located outside the city, on the shores of lakes surrounded by dense forests. People come here with diseases of the digestive system, diseases respiratory system, with a disorder of the peripheral nervous system, metabolic disorders and many other indications. First of all, vouchers to "promoted" health resorts are bought up. Peak season falls on summer months- the time of school holidays and vacations. At this time, in addition to Russians and Ukrainians, many Poles, Balts and Germans rest and are treated here. Such an expansion of the resort contingent testifies to the high quality of the services provided and adequate prices. It is best to come for health improvement from the second half of spring to early autumn, but in July and August there are always a lot of people. On this occasion, a little advice: it is best to book kursovki 3-4 months before the desired date of arrival.

Time for holidays and festivals

Belarusian culture is very distinctive and interesting. Thanks to a special geopolitical position country, the formation of its culture at one time was influenced by several nationalities. Today, the country's holiday calendar includes a lot of anniversaries and events celebrated in Russia, but at the same time it is not without its national celebrations. 1st of January - New Year, January 5 - Day of Social Security Workers, January 7 - Christmas, on the night of January 13-14 - Old New Year, January 19 - Epiphany and Savior Day, January 21 - Engineering Troops Day, January 25 - Students Day, last Sunday of January - Day of Belarusian Science, February 2 (15) - the pagan holiday of Gromnitsa (meeting winter with spring), February 14 - St. Valentine's Day, February 15 - Internationalist Warriors Memorial Day, February 23 - February 23 - Day of Defenders of the Fatherland and the Armed Forces Republic of Belarus, March 15 - Constitution Day of the Republic of Belarus, March 25 - Freedom Day (not considered an official holiday), April 26 - Chernobyl Tragedy Day, April - May - Easter, May 5 - Press Day in Belarus, May 9 - Victory Day, May 15 - International Day of the Family, the second Sunday of May - the Day of the State Emblem, the first Sunday after Easter - the pagan holiday Radunitsa, June 22 - the Day of National Remembrance of the Victims of the Second World War, June-early July - Semukha (Pentecost) , the last Sunday of June - Youth Day, July 3 - Republic Day, July - the international festival of arts "Slavianski Bazaar" in Vitebsk, August 2 - Paratrooper's Day, August 7 - Dozhinka Harvest Day, the third Sunday of August - Belarus Air Force Day, the first Sunday of September - Belarusian Literature Day, the first Sunday of October - Teacher's Day, October 14 - Mother's Day and Pokrov Holy Mother of God, the third Sunday after the Intercession (beginning of November) - "Autumn Grandfathers", November 7 - October Revolution Day, November 17 - Student's Day, December 17 - Belarusian Cinema Day.

Climate in Belarus

Due to the fact that most of the territory of Belarus has a flat landscape, a temperate continental type of climate has formed here, or, to be more precise, a transitional one from maritime to continental. Strong influence air masses from the Atlantic predetermined an increased level of humidity and an almost uniform distribution of precipitation throughout the year. The spread of average daily seasonal temperatures is small - from -5 °С in winter to +23 °С in summer.

Belarus in spring

As a rule, spring is never in a hurry to come into its own. Even in the south, snow lies until mid-March, and in the north it lingers until mid-April. Starting from this time, heat returns to the country, and at night there are already positive temperatures. Due to heavy snowmelt on country roads, muddy roads, some settlements are flooded due to high water on the rivers, so transport communication with them is often disrupted. Real spring comes here in late April - early May, when the weather is sunny. In the fresh air, in addition to moist suspension, delightful floral aromas begin to be captured, fruit trees buds are blooming, and local parks and squares are settling in with lush greenery.

Belarus in summer

Summer in Belarus is ideal for those who cannot stand the heat and the scorching sun. During the day it is moderately warm and moderately sunny. This is a rather rainy season, with rainfall on about 13-15 days of each month, but fortunately they are short and not heavy. It is warmest in August, at this time in the capital one should expect about +22..+23 °С, these figures are much higher in Gomel - here the thermometer can jump up to +25..26 °С, it is also very warm in Brest, but the weather is more moderate. Going to the country in the summer season, however, you should be prepared for anomalous periods: in last years news bulletins were often full of headlines about the unheard-of heat in the republic at +32..+33 °C. But it is worth remembering that no matter what the weather is during the day, the evening contrast to daytime temperatures is always impressive. At night, the thermometer drops by at least 9 ° C, and as a maximum by 12 ° C.

Belarus in autumn

In the first two weeks of September, you can go to Belarus without fear of spending your entire vacation in a hotel. Precipitation is still frequent, but during the day the thermometer rises to +17..+18 °C. But in the second half of the month, the weather already unquestioningly obeys the rhythms of nature, the cycle of which cannot be stopped. It's getting colder outside, the sun hides behind clouds almost all the time, and the trees shed their golden foliage. By October, the thermometer drops to +9..11 ° С, rise strong winds, so long walks do not bring real pleasure. The first frosts are expected at night, but there are no large negative temperatures yet. It is believed that after the Intercession (mid-October), climatic winter comes into its own. Basically, that's how it happens. In November, for the first time, the thermometer drops below 0 ° C, during the day it is very cold, rain is possible with wet snow. Feature last month in autumn - dull fogs, as a result of which humidity and, accordingly, cold intensify.

Chestnuts, dandelions are blooming in Belarus, and in some places the second harvest of apples is being harvested. What is wrong with the climate and what kind of winter to expect after an unusually warm autumn?

Summer ended at the end of September

On October 16, no precipitation is predicted, at night and in the morning fog in places. The air temperature at night is plus 1-7°C, in some areas frosts down to minus 2°C, the temperature during the day is plus 15-20°C.

On October 17 and 18 at night and in the morning fog in some areas, no precipitation. The air temperature at night is from 0 to plus 7°C, during the day from 15 to 22°C.

October 19 mostly rainless. Fog in some areas at night and in the morning. The air temperature at night is plus 3-8°C, in the daytime plus 13-18°C.

The weather will change over the weekend. October 20 across the country will shift atmospheric front. Little rain is expected, but more will begin to arrive behind the front. cold air from northern latitudes.

The established air temperature is more typical for September than for October.

Traditionally, the average monthly temperature in September in Belarus in the northeast near the border with Russia is +10.8. It is warmest in the south-west in the Brest Polesie - +13.3.

September 1955, 1967, 1975, 1983, 1994 and 2005 was warm (2-3 degrees above the norm), and 1959, 1960, 1993 and 1996 were cold (2-3 degrees below the norm).

The first autumn frosts are observed in the north-eastern regions of the country at the end of September, in the central regions - at the beginning of October, in the south-western regions - in mid-October. On the soil surface, frosts occur one to two weeks earlier than these dates, for example, at the end of August. In cases of very warm autumn, they occur only in late October - early November.

There were already frosts, but, he said Naviny. by climatologist Pavel Kovrigo, Candidate of Geographical Sciences and author of the monograph "Climate Changes and the Use of Climate Resources", we can talk about extremely warm September and the first half of October:

“In Minsk on October 15 it was about +20 ºС, and in the Brest and Gomel regions up to +25 ºС. Such temperatures have never been seen before in October. And a very warm September turned out to be one of the three warmest in the last hundred years.”

According to Belhydromet, "so warm september in Belarus stood out for the first time in the post-war period. September was characterized by the predominance of summer-like warm weather, and only in the third decade of the month it got colder. The average air temperature for the month was +13..+16.5°С, which is 2-3.5°С above the climatic norm.

On September 22-23, in most of the country's territory (on average, two decades later than usual), the average daily air temperature passed through +14°C. It is this temperature in climatology that is considered the end of summer. Such a long climatic summer on the territory of Belarus is observed for the first time in the post-war period.

For most of the month, the average daily air temperature was within +13..+19°C, on some days, mainly in the south-east, the average temperature background increased to +20..+24°C, which, respectively, by 2-6°C and 7-10°C warmer than usual. During the day, the air warmed up to +21..+28°C, at the beginning of the month, as well as on September 13 and September 20 in the south-eastern regions, the daily maximum temperature reached +29..+30°C.

The maximum value of air temperature - +30.2°C - was recorded on September 4 at the meteorological stations Oktyabr and Pinsk.

What is happening and why?

Until now, warming has continued in Belarus, which began in 1989 and has no equal, in a commentary for website Head of the Climate Department of the Republican Center for Hydrometeorology, Radioactive Contamination Control and Monitoring environment Elena Komarovskaya.

In our country, climate change is generally in line with global trends. A feature of the current warming is not only an unprecedented duration, but also more heat air, which on average over 28 years (1989-2016) exceeded the climatic norm (1961-1990) by 1.3ºС.

Change global climate more expressed in an increase in the average annual temperature, and this is warming. A significant increase in temperature occurs mainly in the first four months of the year (from January to April), while the largest positive anomaly was typical for January, which became warmer by 2.8ºС.

Pavel Kovrigo notes that the circulation of the atmosphere is changing, which accumulates and stores energy. “On any given day, the weather is the result of the interaction of the atmosphere with the earth's surface, with the hydrosphere, and so on. It's an endless energy machine." the climatologist said.

It turns out that if somewhere it becomes warmer than usual, the atmosphere must realize this heat - dissipate and turn into kinetic energy. The energy of the atmosphere is balanced by the movements of air masses, but in any case, the climate is warming:

“The energy generated by people and nature does not disappear anywhere, but is dissipated in the atmosphere. Well, instead of using the free clean environmentally friendly energy of the sun, wind, sea waves and so on, people create additional energy that contributes to climate warming. Thus, it will not be an exaggeration to say that we have what we have created with our own hands.

What threatens warming?

So far, warming has brought only good results for us.

For example, this year happened in the whole country. And in the Gomel region they are already harvesting the second crop. Strawberries are still sold in the Luninets district, peaches and apricots grow near Pinsk.

However, there is another side of the coin - representatives of flora and fauna unusual for our latitudes appear on the territory of Belarus. Yes, in southern regions countries increasingly began to notice praying mantises and tarantulas. And ticks, says the climatologist, “From spring to late autumn, they create many problems, even in cities, not to mention forests, although thirty years ago they were not thought at all.”

The climate is changing - new ecosystems are emerging. And how they will behave in the future, we do not know. “Many birds, for example, some species of ducks, stay with us for the winter. Not all storks fly away, not all reservoirs freeze completely.”- Pavel Kovrigo drew attention.

He noted that the imbalance atmospheric phenomena also affects social processes: “Daily anomalies in the atmosphere affect human behavior, the relationship between countries. Thirty years ago, there were significantly fewer hot spots than now. I would say that the warmer the climate, the hotter it gets for people in every sense. Weather affects health, psychological state.

What will the winter be like?

Warm spring, summer and autumn are good, but does this mean that after such a long period the winter will be harsh?

“This is not so, such reasoning is incorrect, as is the reference to folk omens. Folk meteorology does not work, because we live in a different time, in an era of climate warming. The cataclysms that occur in nature completely violated the trends when the forecast was triggered based on the observations of rural residents of natural phenomena,” Pavel Kovrigo said .

Last year there was a lot of speculation on the topic, the forecast did not come true. But the annual forecast for the heating season of Russian weather forecasters in relation to the border with the Belarusian territory hit the mark.

According to the estimates of the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia, the accuracy of the forecast over the past 18 years has fluctuated between 58-81%.

Now Roshydromet predicts that, in general, for six months of the cold half-year in most of the territory of Russia, bordering with Belarus, the temperature background is expected to be near and above the average multi-year values.

Above the norm, the average monthly air temperature is expected in November 2018. But December and January are expected to be colder than in 2017 in most of the Central and Northwestern federal districts. The temperature in February will be around the norm.
