Hygienic suspension cut in such a way that the area of ​​the hips and genitals of the patient remains open for hygiene procedures and the use of the toilet. The hygiene suspension can only be used from a seated position. During lifting, the patient should firmly hold on to the straps with his hands. It is not recommended to move patients with low or completely absent muscle tone in the legs in a hygiene suspension, since there is a high risk of falling into the suspension.

Hanger size

Any suspension is also selected in size. The size of the suspension consists of the length, width and length of the straps. The dewlap, folded in half, should be longer than the distance from the crown to the coccyx of the patient. The width of the suspension is compared with the width of the shoulders - the suspension should be at least 15 cm wider so that approximately 5-7.5 cm remain on each side. In order to calculate the optimal length of the straps, you need to measure the distance from the hip to the patient's knee and to the add 25 cm to the value. Remember, only a properly selected suspension guarantees the patient's safety when moving!

Procedure for moving a patient with a lift

Moving from bed/floor

  1. Turn the patient on their side or help them roll over on their own. Place the harness under your back as far as possible and gather it into small folds.
  2. Turn the patient back on his back and pull the suspension from the other side.
  3. Make sure the suspension straps are positioned under the patient's hips.
  4. Attach the straps to the crossbar of the lift, either crossed (if you will be simply moving the patient) or not crossed (if you will be performing hygiene procedures).
  5. Raise the patient slightly and check that the fasteners are secure.
  6. If everything is in order and the patient feels comfortable, raise the suspension and slowly move the lift to the desired location (to the chair or bath).
  7. Lower the patient, detach the hanger and move the lift away. Only then can the suspension be carefully removed from under the patient.

Moving from chair to bed

  1. Slightly tilt the patient's back forward, gently holding it, and position the suspension behind him.
  2. Make sure the middle of the harness is in line with the patient's spine and extend the harness down to the seat.
  3. Return your back to an upright position and slowly pull the bar under your hips so that you can pass the straps between your legs.
  4. Further actions are the same as when moving from bed to chair.

Electric bath lift

The bathtub lift is the most comfortable and safe device for taking water procedures and gives the patient the opportunity to immerse himself in water, i.e. take a full bath.

Suitable for the elderly, as well as patients who are able to independently keep their back in an upright position. In case of severe coordination disorders and involuntary movements, only lifting mechanisms with full-length hammocks and fixing straps can be used.

When moving in a chair using a stair lift, the patient is completely dependent on the accompanying person, therefore, in addition to the correct selection of the lift depending on the type and size of the stairs, it is very important that the person who has to lift and lower the patient down the stairs familiarizes himself with the lifting mechanism and tries use it before accompanying a person with a disability for the first time. When selecting stair lifts (both wheeled and caterpillar), their carrying capacity and dimensions of the flight of stairs are taken into account. The declared load capacity of a specific model must be less than the combined weight of the patient and the weight of the wheelchair. As for the dimensions of the stairs, the width of the flight of stairs, the height of the steps and the angle of inclination of the stairs are measured.
