Vyacheslav Kovtun is a Ukrainian political scientist and television star, whose popularity is growing thanks to his Russophobic position and loud statements. Little is known about the biography of the figure; fame came to him thanks to an invitation to participate in Russian broadcasts. Vyacheslav Kovtun’s specialty is the study of the political situation in Ukraine and its comparison with world practices.

Childhood and youth

The birthplace of the future political scientist was Kara-Kul, located in Kyrgyzstan. Vyacheslav was born on May 17, 1968. He is Kyrgyz by nationality. The public figure does not talk about his parents and childhood.

When the time came to decide on a profession, Vyacheslav entered the history department of the University. . He continued his education in graduate school at the Institute of National Relations and Political Science of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. During these years, the young man’s attitude towards the country’s domestic and foreign policy was formed. Political scientists oriented towards Western trends appeared among his acquaintances.

Vyacheslav Kovtun decided to build a future career using the knowledge he had acquired. He wanted to connect his life with power, so for 18 years he worked as an assistant to deputies and became a close person for many officials.

Career

The first major project for Kovtun was the organization of the First Congress of the North Atlantic Treaty Association Assembly. During this period he was an employee of the Innovation Center. The event gave impetus to professional growth, and the aspiring political scientist gained the long-awaited status.

After defending his dissertation, Kovtun received an invitation to develop an anti-crisis plan in the administrative center under the current President Leonid Kravchuk. The commission was organized on the issue of keeping the Crimea peninsula within Ukraine.

For Kovtun, this activity turned out to be low-paid, but the ambitious political scientist did not think of refusing the appointment. It promised career growth. Having received a job in the government apparatus, Vyacheslav Kovtun developed the necessary connections and became part of the circle of politicians. Gradually mastering his new responsibilities, he was able to afford to increase his workload. Joining the Liberal Party seemed like a profitable decision. Kovtun even ran for the Rada twice, but the endeavor was unsuccessful.

Facebook

His entourage included people with dubious reputations, including adviser to President Leonid Kravchuk and Prime Minister Igor Markulov. Having become an ally of one of the top officials of the state, Kovtun left the country with him at a difficult moment to return to the beginning of the revolution. The "Liberal Party", of which he was a representative, was not popular. In the 2006 elections, she failed to obtain the required number of votes to enter the race.

The experience gained helped Kovtun develop oratory skills, the ability to influence the opinions of others and a tendency to actively communicate with the audience. The consultant has mastered specialized technologies that help navigate the political situation and form his own point of view.

Facebook

He regularly voices it, appearing as an invited guest on television programs on Russian channels. Kovtun’s clear conviction is the illegality of annexing Crimea to Russian territory.

Now Vyacheslav Kovtun is a member of the presidium of the Ukrainian Liberal Party. He also holds the position of chairman of the control and audit commission. The political scientist represents the interests of the Expert research center, located in Kyiv. Little is known about the activities of this organization. Vyacheslav Kovtun is interested not only in government affairs, but also in commerce. The analyst owns a security business.

A television

An unsuccessful career in Ukraine made the political scientist think about possible prospects and pushed him to travel to Russia. Having become a participant in television political discussions, he gained media status. Today, the analyst denies that he receives fees for speaking engagements comparable to a permanent salary.

The first wave of popularity overtook Vyacheslav Kovtun in the mid-2010s, when a crisis broke out in his homeland. The expert participated in programs devoted to politics and related topics. He was invited to the shows “Right to Vote”, “Sunday Evening with Vladimir Solovyov”, “Special Correspondent”. Kovtun’s Russophobic statements found support or complete denial among his colleagues and the audience.

Russian federal TV channels themselves produce opponents from Ukraine for their talk shows

Born of propaganda

This Slava appeared on the air of federal Russian channels about a year ago. He himself explained the reason for his appearance honestly and simply: he was called upon to strengthen the shaky ratings of Russian talk shows on Ukrainian topics. “This is the Kremlin’s decision,” Slava simply told Meduza, “and without its approval I would not be anywhere. It’s just that channel ratings began to fall, and it became boring to watch talk shows where everyone was blowing the same tune. And I fit the character exactly, and that’s why I became a star.”
Well, okay. They began to watch these shows less due to the total “approval” among the participants; it was necessary to dilute them with “Banderaites,” and Slava rushed to the rescue - to represent the opposition Ukrainian side - so that there would be a discussion and so that more Russian people would watch Russian TV. This is where Slava was supposed to help.

People are buried in holes in their country! – a representative of the opposite camp shouted to Slava

He helped well, correctly. On the one hand, he passionately rushed to defend the ideals of the Maidan and defended the actions of the Ukrainian authorities, but on the other hand, he did it so primitively that he simply could not help but expose himself to outright ridicule, and even bullying, of his opponents, who, moreover, traditionally, they were three to four times stronger than Slava, who stood against them together with some of his Ukrainian ally.

– People are buried in holes in their own country! - a representative of the opposite camp shouted to Slava in the last, for example, Sunday show of Vladimir Solovyov.

“I haven’t seen such pits,” Slava responded melancholy, provoking a malicious remark that if you haven’t seen something, it doesn’t mean that it doesn’t exist in nature.

“Your boss came directly, Biden, and said: guys, you stole all the money that we gave you,” the extremely aggressive and boorish Duma member Kalashnikov, for whom the word “you” exists only to denote the plural, told Slava, personally to all the participants Without exception, he addresses himself strictly as “you”.

“I haven’t heard such words,” that’s all Slava could say in response, skipping, of course, the point about the “immediate boss.”
– Why did you ban Santa Claus and Snow Maiden?! – another seizure patient yelled to Slava.

“We don’t have oil and gas,” Slava fought back listlessly, as if automatically agreeing that Ukraine was “sitting in shit.”

“We have figurines of Father Frosts and Snow Maidens in all our supermarkets,” Slava justified himself boringly, instead of somehow ridiculing and whipping his opponent for this new fake of Russian propaganda.

– If Europe helps you and there are no sanctions against you, then why are you sitting in this shit? – the well-mannered presenter Vladimir Solovyov asked Slava.

“We don’t have oil and gas,” Slava fought back listlessly, as if automatically agreeing that Ukraine was “sitting in shit.”

“You never had them,” the presenter shrugged, leaving, of course, the last word for himself.

However, as soon as Slava began to speak a little more confidently, he was interrupted much more rudely.
- Well, can you be silent for at least two minutes?! You, black-mouths, have already ruined Ukraine and don’t let anyone here have a say (“black-mouths” stood in this studio in the usual ratio of two to six). Can you shut up or not?!! – it was his former compatriot Spiridon Kilinkarov who shouted to Slava. And he listened to this rebuke with that smile that you see as an illustration for this publication.

This role was written for Slava by the organizers of all these shows.

And this new tirade from Solovyov addressed to himself: “I don’t want to offend you, but the whimsical train of your thoughts reminds me of the veins of meat in a fatty piece of lard,” Slava also accepted it completely resignedly. What to be offended by? Vladimir Rudolfovich said that he doesn’t want to offend, which means he doesn’t want to.

Slava endures all bullying with magnificent calm. He understands that this is an element of the show, it is part of the rules of the game, and therefore he must be patient. You have to endure it, smile, then scream again, then endure the bullying again and smile again. This role was written for Slava by the organizers of all these shows, and he plays it flawlessly.
Viewers from Russia, who take the Kremlin’s point of view, cannot stand Slava. His position irritates them. Does he really make them happy? How could that be softer? - with his slow-wittedness. These viewers rub their hands when, in response to Slavin’s weak attempts to defend the Ukrainian government, he – whack, whack, whack – gets punches from the talk show hosts, from all their camarillas. Slava is completely incapable of responding Whack-Whack-Whack as a person devoid of humor, irony, sarcasm, reaction and other qualities necessary for full participation in the discussion.

This image is most naturally relayed to the entire nation

He also annoys Russian viewers, who in their views are more likely to be on Slava’s side, but precisely because he creates in these shows the image of a stupid Ukrainian with a weak, easily contested position and completely devoid of self-esteem. And since Ukrainians participate in Russian shows only once or twice, because sensible experts refuse to participate in them, this image is most naturally relayed to the entire nation.
People in Ukraine itself, who have a rough idea of the composition of the participants in these shows, are annoyed not so much by Slava itself, but by the fact that in Russia he is taken seriously. In Ukraine, they couldn’t understand at all who he was, what he was doing, no one had seen his work, no one had any idea about the “Expert” Center for Research of Social Processes, which is headed by Slava. Nobody knows since what year Slava has been running this center, what this Center does, this center doesn’t even have its own website. In actual Ukrainian television programs, Slava appeared so rarely that no one remembered him.

He is just as fake as those pro-Putin “Western political scientists” who periodically appear on RT

“I’ve been hosting various programs about politics on Ukrainian TV for almost seven years now, plus I keep an eye on what’s happening on the air of my competitors,” Evgeniy Kiselev told me. – During this time, I visited all the more or less serious political scientists, as well as political observers who call themselves political scientists, but in fact are political commentators, and also sociologists, political strategists, political consultants, etc. So, Slava Kovtun does not exist in any of the listed forms. He is just as fake as those pro-Putin “Western political scientists” who periodically appear on RT. This Slava represents no one but himself,” says Evgeniy Kiselev.

Slava’s Facebook, in which, purely theoretically, he, as a political scientist, could give assessments of ongoing processes in the country and in the world, and he could at least give ratings to the books he read, and even post jokes - is a unique phenomenon in its homogeneity. From this Facebook we can conclude that the only passion, the only goal, the only joy, the only impression of Slavina’s life is his participation in the same Russian talk shows. Please note - not thoughts about these shows, not comments, not observations, but only a recording of this participation. I was simply shocked to see this Facebook. I think this is good material for a psychologist.

I copied almost all the posts in a row (they are open to everyone) over the past months, from last Sunday and down to the start of the television season - in fact, Slava himself uses this calculation. He lives from TV season to TV season:

They found each other - the Russian propaganda machine and the Ukrainian patriot who lubricates it with himself

Vyacheslav’s biography began in the small Kyrgyz village of Karakul, where he was born in 1968. He spent his childhood in Kyrgyzstan until his family moved to Ukraine. After graduating from school, Slava entered the main capital's university - Kiev University. Taras Shevchenko. The young man chose the Faculty of History with a specialization in Political Science and International Relations. The education he received and the contacts he made during his graduate studies determined his future career.

Political scientist and politician

Closer in spirit to him was the Liberal Party of Ukraine, of which Vyacheslav became a member while still at the university. The certified specialist was entrusted with the position of chairman of the control and audit commission on the presidium. By this time, the pro-Western way of thinking of the political scientist Kovtun had formed. In 2010, he headed the Expert Center for Public Interest Research in Kyiv and took the position of an irreconcilable Russophobe. The radical politician supported the Ukrainian presence in NATO, the Kiev coup and military events in Donbass. Working for Expert allowed him to immerse himself in the epicenter of the country's political events and get acquainted with the activities of the government apparatus.

Television brought him wide fame. On the programs “Right to vote”, “Special correspondent”, “Time will tell”, “Sunday evening with Vladimir Solovyov”, he positioned himself as an expert on political life in Ukraine. Kovtun has the qualities of an excellent speaker and manipulator. It costs him nothing to persuade his interlocutor to his side. Vyacheslav's popularity in his country is growing every year. His speeches often contain harsh statements against Russia. The political scientist considers the events in Crimea illegitimate; he is also categorical about the participation of the Russian Federation in the events in eastern Ukraine and Euromaidan.

How does he live today?

The personal life of Vyacheslav Kovtun is hidden from the general public. It is only known that he and his wife are raising three children. In addition to political activities, he owns a security company. Private business brings good dividends, since the clients are important commercial objects and famous personalities.

Political scientist Kovtun has made a good career. His takeoff was smooth and confident. But the Liberal Party of Ukraine, of which he remains a member to this day, does not find active support among the country’s population, therefore, in addition to political consultations, the analyst leads an active media life. Often political debates in the studio end in brawls. Expressing his point of view regarding the social processes of neighboring countries, the scandalous politician acquired many ill-wishers among the Ukrainian and Russian authorities.
