- Sergey, you have not shown yourself as an actor in a movie for a long time. Did they agree to the film "12" mostly because of the role itself, or when a director of this level calls, is it just stupid to refuse?

- Firstly, when Mikhalkov calls, there can be no other solution - you need to agree, because he really is a very great director, always offering something interesting. If we also take into account that my friendly and working relations with him have been going on for about thirty years ... We often discuss various ideas and projects with him, some he recommends to me for production. Therefore, when Nikita called me and offered a role in his new film, I, absolutely trusting him, could agree without even reading the script. After all, working with him is happiness, he is so interesting person.

- Did you immediately like your character?

Well, at first I saw characters in the script that I liked a lot more. (Laughs) Naturally, the main roles… You know, when an actor reads a script, he always pays attention to those roles that he is never given. That is the law. And all that is needed in this situation is to treat it correctly. Personally, I am a character artist and I am well aware that I will never be allowed to play a hero. Yes, and you don’t need this - just spoil the movie. (Laughs.)

- In "12" you throw knives so accurately ...

- Yes, two months of training for twelve hours. Everywhere he dragged them with him ... He woke up with them, fell asleep with them ... Basically, he wanted to learn on his own. In order not to remove the hands of the stuntman. It was like a challenge, more proof that an actor should be able to do everything.

- Your mother worked as an accountant at a car factory, your father was the deputy director of a winery in Baku, and nothing seemed to foreshadow your creative career. What was the reason to go to the acting department?

- This is not entirely true - my mother sang very well. And not just like that, but she loved to arrange her performances beautifully, with an exit, with jokes ... The guests asked: “Asya, sing, please!” And the real concert began - the theater of one actor. And my mom was happy to do it. Their relationship with dad was also funny - they always teased each other. In addition, my older brother Vladimir is a professional musician and choir conductor.

True, at school I was being prepared for an architectural institute, since the drawing went well and everything was in order with an abstract vision. By the way, I am also my own restaurant, and Vacation home built according to his drawings, without resorting to the services of an architect. And everything seemed to work out. Moreover, Masha Golub came to me, looked and, asking permission, built herself exactly the same house.

- It turns out that you have a structured mindset ...

— Yes, I can easily imagine any design. And this is necessary, by the way, in order to shoot a movie - to see the integrity of the film. And if we go back to my childhood in Baku, then from an early age I was a gorokhov jester. He liked to make his classmates laugh, to indulge, to sit by a chair, to fall awkwardly ... So, my hypocrisy inclinations also lived in me. In the team, I was a favorite, and everyone predicted an acting future for me. I applied for acting as an actor back in Baku - I failed at composing, I did not know Russian. Therefore, he went to work in the local House of Officers - he opened and closed the curtain, exhibited huge posters drawn by a terrible drunkard artist, inviting to the next session. A year later, having earned money, I came to Moscow, with a terrible accent, I took exams at a competition of 800 people for a place, and only thanks to Oleg Pavlovich Tabakov did I enter his course at GITIS. And so the entire selection committee was shocked when they heard in my retelling, absolutely without soft signs, Gogol's story "The Nose".

- Today you are engaged in directing, and you are rarely seen on the screen, nevertheless, do you have to deal with audience recognition?

- Yes, but I can not stand the manifestation of familiarity, which inevitably arises, as soon as popularity comes. To be honest, I can't bear it when they point a finger at me. For this reason, I feel great abroad. Coming to older sister to Los Angeles and relax where no one knows me, roller-skate, go shopping ... Nobody tells me how it is here ... Last summer, on a bicycle, in shorts, I drove into a famous folk hypermarket built next to our dacha, and there they told me: “What are you doing here ?!” At the same time, the seller did not want to offend me, on the contrary, he was worried about me ... Or there was a similar case in Altufiev, also in a supermarket: I walk between the shelves, examine everything with curiosity, and suddenly a man runs up to me shouting: “Yes, is that you? ! In our store, but you look! Why here? How are you, where do you work? For some reason I can't see you on TV…” “And now I'm a driver in a trolleybus,” I answer him. “The old one has become, they don’t make films.” So sometimes there is a mood - you joke, but most often you are in some of your thoughts, worries, and you simply don’t have the strength to play along with someone ...

How often do you receive offers as an actor now?

- Somewhere with a frequency of once a week. Often, in a word. But I don't like much. For the last time, they offered the role of not just a bandit, but an already notorious maniac who kills people on the road, cuts off their heads and stores them in the refrigerator. Well, that's over the edge. Sometimes I agree to a project with more or less acceptable material, to be honest, purely for the money. Sometimes I am attracted either by the shooting location itself, or by the personality of the director, cameraman, partner ... True, most often I refuse - I have my own film company and restaurant, and these are organisms that require constant presence, control.

- People with an artistic nature are especially acutely experiencing loneliness, are you afraid of it?

- All normal people are afraid of him, since this is an unnatural state of a person that cannot bring happiness. I had times when loneliness took me by the throat, then I got behind the wheel, turned on classical music and drove around Moscow ... I got out of the crisis like that. And so I love communication, inviting guests, cooking for friends, organizing noisy feasts ... I am especially partial to Sunday dinners, when the whole family gathers - all the children, wife, mother-in-law, cats, dogs ... I like everyone to tell something about their current affairs, shared and everyone would have discussed it, and then talked about politics, sports, cinema ...

- You give the impression of an extremely rational and economic man, is that so?

— I can earn money for my family. But I don’t know how to save them, I like to spend. The very first item of expenditure is travel. And in the most exotic countries. Such a pleasure to climb to some remote island in Southeast Asia and chat about life with natives or llamas ... This joy is not cheap, which is why sometimes you have to play bloodthirsty executioners in the movies, waiting for their victims. (Laughs) Although today I could already be a super-rich person if I agreed to shoot all the countless series where I was called. But it would definitely consume my life.

- Probably, many people know that you were the husband of, perhaps, the most mystical actress of the Russian screen, Irina Metlitskaya. Why do you think we still haven’t got young actresses of this level with her departure?

There is never too much of the real, and there shouldn't be. Maybe the time is different or for others. Don't know. The question is eternal.

Did she have an easy temper?

- I can't say that. But she was an absolutely airy person. Very clean inside, which just allowed her to be a little bit apart from everyone. This was her gift, which drew her to her. Looking at her, it was never possible to understand: she is bad or good. She flew all the time - there was such a feeling.

- She died, leaving you two sons, what are they doing today?

- The eldest, Nikita, is twenty-one years old, and this year he is graduating from ICEF, the Higher School of Economics, English department. He will receive a bachelor's degree from two universities at once - Russian and English universities. He has big plans. I guess he'll fit right in in this area. He has a clear head and a design and mathematical mindset. I remember that as a child, he collected all the samples in Lego in twenty minutes, and later he came up with something of his own - castles, ports, airfields ... And he always had sympathy for French and English, they were easy for him. Another son, Peter, is eighteen years old and a saxophonist. He has been studying in New York for a year now, at the university, playing, composing music, and doing arrangements. He is alone there, I sometimes fear for him, but he must be admitted that he is a very independent guy. We took the children abroad from an early age, taught them languages so that they already feel free, not squeezed by the people of the world. At the same time, I am pleased that both of them do not associate their future life with foreign countries, considering it only as a stage, a step in learning.

- In addition, you are a young dad, your youngest, Stepan, from his second wife, only a year and nine months old ...

- You can’t imagine what an inexpressible happiness it is to become a father again at a respectable age. Feelings are not the same as in youth. A mature dad is sentimental, allowing everything, even when you see that his son begins to use it, act up ... So this is such an upbringing, without any barriers. And I highly recommend to all my friends, before it's too late, to become fathers. (Smiles.) You see this baby and you understand that everything is not in vain, that he will support, continue your work ...

— Lena is 34 years old, and she is engaged in advertising marketing. It has higher education He is fluent in two languages. She is fantastically omnivorous and efficient. Her workaholism sometimes even scares me - she will never go to bed if she has not done something. But this is her inner credo, from which you can’t get away. She can’t sit at home - she rushes about, develops some projects, changes jobs ... Lena is my adored, very beloved person ... We have been together for eleven years.
