How to make ginger ale?

Ginger is a natural source of many beneficial vitamins, and is rightfully considered in some countries to be literally a panacea. Today I will tell you how you can make a simple and tasty carbonated drink at home using ginger that will pleasantly surprise your guests!

You will need

  1. - Ginger root
  2. - Two lemons
  3. - Sugar
  4. - Dry yeast
  5. - Three-liter jar
  6. - Medical glove

Instructions

  • Peel the ginger and grate it on a fine grater. You should get two to three tablespoons of ginger mass. Place it in a jar.
  • Squeeze the juice out of the lemons. You can even use your hands. It’s okay if pulp or seeds get into the jar!
  • Pour 300-350 grams of granulated sugar there. If you like sweets, take 350, if you prefer tartness and sourness, 300 will be enough.
  • To top it off, add dry yeast. Just a little, about a quarter of a teaspoon is enough.
  • Fill the jar with warm water. It is better to heat it in a saucepan to a temperature of 40-45 degrees. It should not be scalding, but it should also be higher than room temperature so that the yeast begins to ferment.
  • Put a regular medical glove on top of the jar. Poke a hole in one of your fingers with a toothpick and leave the jar for two days in a cool, dark place. I’ll explain in more detail. In the jar, thanks to the combination of yeast and sugar, the fermentation process begins. At this stage, our ale should not come into contact with oxygen. However, during fermentation, carbon dioxide is released, and if the jar is simply sealed with a lid, it can explode. A glove with a hole will prevent fresh air from getting inside, and the released gas will accumulate in the glove itself and, if necessary, be released through the hole.
  • After two days, pour the contents of the jar into plastic bottles, cap them and put them in the refrigerator. During this time, the yeast will “eat” almost all the sugar and the fermentation process will begin to slow down. The carbonation process will begin in the refrigerator.
  • After two days the bottles can be opened and drunk. I recommend pouring through a strainer, as excess ginger and lemon will not decorate your glasses. The drink will be carbonated and very tasty!
