The ability to drive a vehicle is provided to those persons who have a driver's license. Obtaining a driver's license is carried out after passing the theory and practice of driving, while in accordance with the latest changes in legislation, only those persons who have studied in accredited educational institutions - driving schools have the right to take the exam and, in fact, have the opportunity to obtain the coveted document. How long does it take to study for a car license, how does the duration of the process of acquiring knowledge depend on what category of rights the student intends to obtain and what knowledge and skills are taught in such institutions?

The duration of training in a driving school directly depends on what category of license the student will receive - that is, on what kind of vehicle he will be able to drive. Thus, studying for a license, depending on the type of vehicle in question, takes:

  • Category A, A1, AM(moped, scooter, motorcycle) – training lasts 1.5 months. At the same time, students undergo a short course in theory and practice;
  • For category B a novice motorist will have to study longer - the period of obtaining theoretical knowledge and practicing practice lasts 3 months. Both theory and practice are studied in full, and the student discusses the time of practical classes together with the instructor. After the end of 3 months, the examination at the traffic police takes place;
  • In order to study category C(for a tractor license) you will have to spend about 3 months;
  • Aircraft category– it is the most complex and the training period lasts 4.5 months, since those enrolled in a driving school receive knowledge of driving two types of transport at once;
  • Category D– to obtain a driver’s license of this category, you will need to spend 2 months, and the period may be shorter if before that the student has already mastered driving vehicles classified as B and C;
  • Category E– training for it lasts 1.5 months, but a prerequisite is that the student has two years of experience in categories B and C. In the event that there is a need to obtain a license to drive freight vehicles outside the Russian Federation (truck driver- international), then you can take an additional course in 5 days.

Features of training in a driving school

Currently, the learning process in a driving school is carried out in the following stages, which are mandatory for all enrolled in it:

  • Study of the theoretical part (the theory program is approved by legislative acts and includes all the mandatory information necessary for a motorist when driving, servicing a vehicle and in situations involving injuries and damage) – 130 hours;
  • Practical part - during the internship, the student, together with his instructor, already behind the wheel of a training car, practices all the exercises necessary to pass the traffic police exam;
  • Passing the exam - the final 4 hours are allotted for this action, during which the student is tested and passes the practical part at the racetrack and while driving around the city.

Recent innovations have also affected what compulsory subjects and topics are included in the theoretical curriculum. So, in a driving school, each student will take a course in the following subjects:

  • Profile law directly related to driving;
  • Traffic rules with all changes that have been introduced and are in force at the time of their completion in the driving school. In addition, if laws and amendments are issued indicating that changes will be introduced over time, the instructor will also bring this fact to the attention of the students;
  • Basic psychological and emotional characteristics and aspects of motorist behavior on the road;
  • Principles of first aid. It is worth noting that, in accordance with the new rules, only 16 hours are allotted for this stage, while previously such a topic was covered in 24 hours;
  • Basic points of safe driving;
  • Rules for using the machine for its safe operation.

Also, starting this year, all driving school students will be introduced to the basic concepts of the rules for transporting goods and passengers. In parallel with this, the possibility of self-training in the practical part of driving was canceled - now each student is required to undergo practical training at a driving school. Moreover, when directly passing the exam, the number of mandatory exercises that a motorist will need to complete will no longer be 3, as was previously the case, but 5.

Every year the number of people wishing to obtain the coveted driving license is growing. In 2016, the training period and cost changed, and strict requirements were applied to training organizations. In this article, we will look at all the intricacies of this process, and also answer the question that worries future motorists so much, how long to study for a car license.

Reasons for changes

This year, legislation has become more demanding on the quality of training of future drivers, as the number of accidents involving new drivers on the road is growing rapidly. Therefore, those who did not receive a driver’s license (DR) last year will spend significantly more money, time and effort.

Only accredited driving schools can teach the basics of driving. Such organizations have their own training program, which is approved by the traffic police. According to the updated rules, people at least 16 years old are allowed to take courses in categories “A1” and “M”. You can train for other types of transport from the age of 18.

What is the duration of training

Previously, you could prepare for exams yourself and practice driving a car. Everything has changed. If you don't visit a driving school now, no one will look at you.

There are 3 stages of training category “B” in the amount of 190 hours (previously only 156):

  • theoretical classes – 130 hours;
  • practical driving – 56 hours;
  • exam – 4 hours.

Now, during the driving test, the driver must complete 4 exercises (previously - 3). Added “safe passenger disembarkation” exercise.

Many car enthusiasts are interested in the period of retraining when receiving another category. Basic training is 84 hours. Some changes have been made to the admission to the “M” category (scooters and mopeds). If the driver does not have a license to drive other types of transport (“B”, “C”, etc.), he must attend mandatory classes at a driving school.

If a person has learned to drive a car with an automatic transmission, then after completing the course he is not allowed to drive a car with a manual transmission. However, when learning to drive a car with a manual transmission, he has every right to drive a vehicle with an automatic transmission.

Depending on the desired category, the following training periods are provided:

  • “A”, “A” - no more than 4 months;
  • “B”, “M” - 3.5 months;
  • “C” - 6 months;
  • “D” - 7.5 months;
  • “D1” – no more than 7 months;
  • “B1E”, “DE” - no more than a month;
  • "CE" - 1 month.

Documentation

In order to start training at a driving school, you should have the following list of documentation with you:

  1. Russian Federation passport. You will receive a special form where you need to enter your personal data.
  2. Medical certificate of the new type 083/u-89. You need to contact doctors such as a therapist, a psychiatrist-narcologist, an ophthalmologist, a surgeon, a neurologist, an ENT specialist.
  3. Photos (3X4, 3 pieces).
  4. Military ID (men under 27 years old).

How many subjects are studied at the driving school?

This year the preparatory program has been updated - the principle of modularity has been introduced. There are three stages for a beginner: basic, specialized and professional. A trained driver is not required to complete this training. In European countries, this principle has been operating successfully for a long time.

The following subjects are compulsory in a driving school:

  • specialized law;
  • the basics of psycho-emotional behavior of a driver on the road;
  • basics of first aid. The number of hours has decreased to 16 (previously −24);
  • theory of safe driving;
  • vehicle operating rules;
  • the basics of competent transportation of goods and passengers.

Cost of car courses

After the introduction of amendments to driving school training, the price of courses increased by almost 40%. The main “culprits” were several reasons: the growth of foreign currency, the difficult financial situation in the country, an increase in study periods, as well as increased requirements for teachers and equipment for automotive organizations.

Fees for exams have been established:

  • passing the theoretical part – 1 thousand rubles;
  • practical driving – 3.5 thousand rubles.

Registration of a driver's license costs 2 thousand rubles (previously 800 rubles). The full cost of the rights will cost up to 35 thousand rubles.

How to save money?

There are several options on how to save on obtaining rights:

  • profitable promotions, due to which the final cost of courses is significantly reduced;
  • a special referral from the employment service, this method is only suitable for people who have been registered with this institution for at least 2 months;
  • refund of 13% of the amount of money spent on training (social tax deduction).

Video about exam rules

Since the duration of training for a license this year is at least 3.5 months, you should take care in advance about choosing the right driving school. The best option is that the organization and the racing track are located close to your place of residence, and the cost of training is reasonable.

A motorist who wishes to become a full-fledged participant in road traffic is required to pass a theoretical course and practical exams at the police department that controls road safety. Skills, knowledge, and level of proficiency must meet the requirements set by the government authority.

The rules are established by the government and they apply throughout the Russian Federation.

Innovations in passing the traffic police exam in 2018 for driving license

It is important for citizens who have expressed a desire to become full participants in the movement to know about the changes that have affected the certification for obtaining a driver’s license in 2018:

  11. Having completed the test on time and answered correctly, you are allowed to drive on the site (autodrome).
  12. Positive results are valid for six months; if one of the three points of the exam is not passed, the first retake is in a week.

Video on how to get your license

Only time and statistics will tell how fair such events are. But from the beginning of 2018, serious financial difficulties will be added to the psychological experiences inherent in exam preparation.

Purchasing a driver's license is a very expensive process. Considering that in the country a considerable number of citizens simply do not have a vehicle. The popularity of this document is based rather on the possibility of earning money.

It is no secret that the majority of students seek to acquire driving skills not for pleasure.

The overwhelming majority of students do not have a car, and do not even plan to purchase one upon completion of their studies. First of all, this category of citizens plans to go to work as drivers.

How to pay less for your license in 2018

From all of the above, it becomes obvious that acquiring the legal right to drive a vehicle is a very serious process. In order not to cause a significant blow to the individual or family budget, careful preparation is required.

Every motorist is accustomed to the fact that the road traffic environment is undergoing constant changes. A fundamental point in the issue of safety and accident reduction is driver training. Since 2016, the designated system has undergone serious changes, which have not been completed to this day. The most heated debate is the question of the timing of courses at a driving school for category “B”. This is explained by the fact that the passenger car has become so firmly established in the lives of citizens that they cannot imagine a day without this means of transportation. So, how long will it take to study for a license in category “B” in 2019 in order to become a full participant in traffic on public roads?

It is worth noting that the changes were made taking into account the need to increase the level of drivers produced by educational organizations. This, in turn, undoubtedly affects the accident rate and the culture of behavior of motorists while driving. According to statistics, most offenses are committed by reckless drivers whose driving experience does not exceed three years.

Firstly, the tightening affected the activities of driving schools. Increased requirements drove unreliable organizations out of the market, issuing certificates of completion of courses to those clients who had never driven and had no idea about all the nuances of traffic rules. As a rule, such establishments did not have licenses to carry out the relevant type of activity. Nowadays, only those driving schools that have a valid permit and a course program approved by the Ministry of Education and the State Traffic Inspectorate can teach driving. In addition, persons who have received special permission can directly engage in training.

Secondly, the legislation determines the terms of training. The volume of classes increased by 34 hours and amounted to 190. According to legislators, such adjustments significantly affect the quality of training.

From a formal point of view, the duration of training has increased, but in practice, the additional hours spent by the future car enthusiast at a desk in the classroom and behind the wheel of a training vehicle only affected the intensity of the program offered by a particular institution.

What do the established hourly standards include?

For a deeper understanding of the changes introduced, it is worth understanding how the hours provided for training in driving schools are used. So, 190 hours are divided into the following activities:

  • 130 – theory;
  • 56 – practice with an instructor;
  • 4 – exam.

It is worth noting that the practice includes practicing exercises on a training ground and driving in the city. The theory, in turn, includes:

  • legal aspects of road traffic (liability);
  • driving culture;
  • basics of providing first aid to victims of road accidents;

The number of hours spent studying medical care decreased with the adoption of the amendments. So, instead of the previously established 24 hours, students devote only 16 to this aspect.

  • basics of safe vehicle control;
  • operation of the vehicle;
  • rules for the transportation of passengers, including children, and cargo.

After completing the course, the student will have to pass an exam consisting of a theoretical part and practice (site, city). It is worth noting that previously maneuvering on the site included three exercises. Now there are four of them. An additional challenge for students will be disembarking a passenger.

How many months of training should I expect?

For students, the topic of training periods is very important, because this directly determines how soon they can receive their driver’s license. At the same time, few people are satisfied with only the number of hours set. The specific information that is important for the driving school client, in this case, is the number of months that will have to be spent within the walls of the educational organization. It is worth knowing that this depends primarily on the program offered by a particular driving school.

For example, many schools in Moscow they offer three-month training. This approach is a standard, which is successfully complemented by an individual approach to students who want to attend classes on weekends, in the evening, on weekdays, and during the day. This helps driving schools attract clients who are burdened with study, work or business trips.

On average, the duration of a theoretical lesson is three hours. Thus, if a person allocates free time for studying on weekdays, then he will be able to complete the weekly plan at 15 hours. Weekend classes, in turn, provide 6 hours for the weekly plan. Thus, their duration, expressed in calendar days, directly depends on the intensity of training.

The practical part does not have such a strong impact on the duration of the courses, because such classes are conducted in parallel with the theory. Exercises on the site and driving in the city take about a month. At the same time, it is worth considering that many students take additional lessons if they want to improve their skills or are simply unsure of themselves.

Among other things, changes in driving training also affected the technical aspects of the vehicle.

So, if a student has completed his training with an automatic transmission, then the corresponding mark will be placed in his documents. Otherwise, if manual was selected, then the check mark is not placed, and the driver has the right to drive any car. If a student on an automatic machine still changes his mind, then he can take an additional course on mechanics, which takes about two weeks.

The last step on the path to obtaining a driving license is the traffic police exam. At the same time, the driving school conducts an internal examination and testing before him, which is the last step before admission to a serious test. Having visited the State Traffic Inspectorate at the appointed time, the examinee will have to go through theoretical and practical parts. Not everyone manages to pass them on the first try. That is why re-examination can significantly delay the training period.

Thus, before concluding an agreement with a driving school, you need to focus on a period of 3.5-4 months of continuous work.

Is it possible to reduce the training period, and if so, how?

Due to the busyness of many people who want to obtain a license, they are not satisfied with attending the course and passing exams within the designated time frame. Therefore, they are looking for all sorts of ways to reduce the time spent on training. If for beginners it is not possible to reduce the legally established hours, then for drivers who want to get an additional category to those already on their driver’s license, this is quite possible.

So, according to the retraining program, you can graduate in the following period of time, depending on the category:

  • from “B” to “C” - two months;
  • from “C” to “B” – less than a month;
  • from “B” to “D” – about three months;
  • from “D” to “B” –1.5 months;
  • If you have a license for a passenger car or moped, motorcycle, scooter (M, A, A1), retraining cannot be carried out in an abbreviated form.

The only way out for beginners may be distance learning. Theoretical lessons through a personal account can save learning time or at least travel time to a driving school, which is also nice for a busy person.

List of documents for admission to a driving school (as of 2018)

The list of documents for training in driving schools is identical for all organizations and includes:

  • Photocopy of passport.
  • Agreement.
  • and a copy thereof.
  • 4 photos.
  • Receipt confirming payment of the fee. Such a payment costs 2000 rubles.

The deadline for submitting documents is limited to two weeks from the date of the first lesson.

How to choose a reliable driving school?

When choosing an educational institution, you should pay special attention to such aspects as:

  • Location of the establishment.
  • Location of training sites where classes are carried out.
